Yeah, I'm picking up an oscilloscope soon. I grow tired of saying "...if I had an oscilloscope..." The flicker is very minimal, but still present. Thanks!
I've been striving to setup my gen to connect to the house to provide backup power. Thus far, it is connected (I replaced the outer service panel) with a interlock on the panel. I took this time to also install a whole house surge suppressor. Anyway, I connected the gen 240v (each leg...
Got the top panel grinded down. Used a 80 grit flap disk on a 4" grinder. Went over it with a angle grinder with wire cup. Cleaned it up with acetone, then two coats of CRC Rust Converter. This leaves a paintable primed surface. Before I paint, I figured I'll get the noise deadening in...
Oh, one other thing - The rear panel of my ASK, the part that covers the blower wheel, has been crushed a little. The vents in it, made for a very nice "compression zone". Other than brute force, any tips to get these straightened out?
I started digging on the dynamat idea. I have always thought, they had just the 1/16-1/8" thick mat. Turns out, they have a 3/4" "hoodliner" that is can take the heat, but designed to keep down the noise. In the description, they mention Generator "housing". This may be a similar product (as...
I imagine the insulation is more for sound than anything. I think anyway. If it is for temp, heh, I live in South Texas. Dynamat is a good idea. I think there are some generic options that I have look at for my SUV, but I didn't want to go with them since they were "tar" based. I wasn't...
I am nearing the end of my rebuild journey. Time to get the ASK back on the generator. However, some of the panels, the insulation is deteriorating. Any recommendations for replacement padding?
Well, after more looking, seems 2 gauge AL will be fine. Since I have it, and if there are not anyone against it, I’ll just use that. Those pin and sleeve connectors are nice. Since I’ll be in a stationary setup, I’ll just hardwire.
Seems the breaker, a CH 100A, will handle a 2/0. I have some 2 gauge Aluminum wire. I should only need 10 ft from lug to breaker. The 2 gauge AL that I have may be a little light. So I'll probably look to pick up some 1/0 copper. Should handle anything I want to connect to the house breaker...
That is exactly what I am thinking. In fact, I plan to wire the mains and the Gen up first. I figure those two will be the most important on arrangement. In fact, my main is bottom fed then looped to the top. I may flip the panel to have it straight wire in the bottom. (the panel I'm...
Yeah. This is a bit of a mystery of the number of real hours.
First, It doesn't look like the AC VR was setup for 60 Hz since I don't have jumpers between 1,2,3 // 4,5 // 8,9. From what I've seen posting wise (I haven't found this in a TM yet)
Second, I had the coils on the back of the Hz and...
You know, may be. It starts great. Things tend to take a beating when they are stored. I was wondering about the attempt at EMP too. I would figure that for the most part, this gen should be immune to an EMP. Or pretty close to it.
My Hz meter works!!! haha. Gotta love it. Something else, when looking at the AC VR, I don't see 1,2 & 3 // 4 & 5 // 8 & 9 with jumpers between them. I saw on one of the replacement boards out there that these terminals should be shorted out for 60 Hz use. Dunno.
Gotta love a mystery.
Other than a the parts I mentioned above, I am in the process of buying the "new and improved" AC and DC Voltage Regulators. After this, I just need to pull out the aux fuel solenoid and get it working. I need to clean up the ASK, but after that, I think it will be good to go. With this, I...
All good questions:
The Gen was manufactured in late 1980. I don't see any other tag that could be a "reset" tag. The hour meter was at "1", so I assumed there was 10,000 hours on it.
I purchased the gen from Gov't Auction mid 2011. I picked it up at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio. I went...
Dam, that seems like the way to go. The age of the components by itself suggests they are not working optimally. Add to the fact of sourcing the parts, doing the overhaul and such. I also see they have the DC Voltage Regulator too. I may just replace both to get "more up to date" on these...
And: Thanks Again. In blind faith, I ordered a replacement K1. I figure, why not. I also have on order the 7.5a dc breaker (mine is goofy), fuel cap, oil pressure switch (for some reason my leads to it are shorted out, assuming it is bad). With this all swapped, and I go through the voltage...
