    On the missing whiffle pins- I talked to a guy that ran a wrecker at Ft Leonard Wood back in the day. He said they did a lot of lifted towing and never used the whiffletrees. They just ran chain between the two bumper shackles and hooked to that. I tend to believe this was a common practice...

And they sure are easy to get off- the problem came about when I tried to mount the spare- the holes are too small. Here is a pic- I think you can see the smaller holes.     Guffer was having a good recovery- talked to him Thursday shortly after he picked it up. Hope to hear that he made it home ok. I was recovering a 915 at the same time in Nellis and made it home that same day.
