Finished more sanding and painting on the truck. I was surprised to find some sort of bed liner type coating on the frame and underside of the m109 box. It's turned out really well.
I've also decided to put a hard top on this truck for the long drives. Just a little more painting, new...
Gents,
Have made a lot of progress since getting home. Replaced the front window frames but noticed I will need a new front window assembly as it has some rust issues. We also spent some time painting the box with some good agricultural oil based paint. Our ladder wasn't tall enough so I'll go...
@peashooter,
I appreciate the heads up, would you recommend replacing the wheel cylinder while I am in there even if its not leaking a drop? I was already planning on replacing seals and possibly brake linings depending on there wear level.
@Monkeyboyarmy...Wow! mind if I ask where you...
Well Dad went down and did some hurricane prep like boarding up windows and making sure everything was tied down just in case. He also looked at the IP on the 816 and I am very happy to report that the issue was simple. Thanks to Simp5782 a.k.a Wes for his input on the possible cause which...
How time flies, I haven't really been home at all to work on this truck or my property but my dad stopped down and did a little paint work before he went to our property for Hurricane Florence prep mid last week. I am waiting on parts to rebuild both windshields and then getting them installed...
Gents,
My dad and I went to my property this weekend and got some work done, the wrecker was pretty integral and did not let us down. started easy and did all the heavy lifting we needed it to do.
We went to pack up Sunday before I go TDY for the next two months and truck started fine...
Wes,
Great idea, I don't have one of those yet but it's on the list now. I have a canvas operator cover which makes things very nice. Tennessee has some hot summers.
Finally began ordering the basic issue items for the wrecker...found this little guy on sale for too cheap to pass up.
Any other recommendations for the truck, I also have the lifting poles and winching legs on my list to buy.
Going down hopefully next weekend to do some clean up /...
Did some cross loading today getting things ready for the first of 3 moves to our property. I've decided I'll drive this truck to Tennessee remove the box and then drive it home unless we run out of time before our PCS. Few pictures of the operation.
Getting ready to order all new rubber...
Now I'm attacking the body as well as small upgrades. Previous owner to the previous owner installed an air shift transfer case which is a plus. I'm eye balling a whistler turbo unless someone on here talks me out of it. This truck will serve as our moving truck on next PCS since my Tan deuce...
The truck/drivetrain have always been great to me...starts when you barely breathe on the start button. Idles rough but got better with diesel treatment and fresh diesel. It is a NA truck but truthfully doesn't smoke as other non-turbos I have seen.
I brought it to the house for a good...
I used diamond plate aluminum since it was easy to work with and rust resistant and fairly cheap. It worked well and I moved onto the inside of the box. The old wood floor was pretty well rotted, I saved what I could and fixed what was bad. I covered it with 3/4" marine grade plywood to...
It's been a few months since I bought the M109 from a fellow SS member (thanks Mac!). I got the truck for a price I couldn't pass up even though I hadn't planned on a 2nd truck yet. The truck was a solid runner but was a little worse for wear and the box had a few holes. I'm fairly proficient...
Last weekend did not go as planned due to the sup-tropical storm in Florida...we received a lot of rain from the edges of the storm and our red Tennessee clay turned into jelly. Even the Cat was sliding around. We did get quite a bit of dirt work done on Friday with the Cat and Ford. The 816...
Wes, thanks for those I didn't even know about the mto16. I like the m345 and know where I can get one for $2k but it's heavy at 10k empty.
Big job before trailer is to get the wrecker 100% road worthy.
@tobyS and Simp5782,
you guys are answering all my questions, and I agree with you tobyS that the M1061 is probably a better fit for me right now as I am moving less equipment and more materials like steel roof parts and general lumber. I would love something I could tow with my 3/4' Burb but...
@tobys and simp5782 - that's right it does have a hydraulic side dump bucket. It should be a pretty useful option while digging out our hill to put in my barn. Eventually I want to get a clamshell bucket for the front as well.
I also loved the m322 trailer but it was pretty high and I don't...
Last week Simp5782 aka Wes helped me moved my new to me track loader to the property, he did a great job so if you need help hauling hit that man up. I wish I had gotten pictures of his truck and trailer it was pretty awesome. I also picked up a 22x26 military heavy tarp for temporary cover...
So I finally was able to peal away from work for a weekend and do some work to the 816 and cabin. Truck fired right up, I adjusted the idle to correct level and installed a new throttle cable and also found a replacement rear winch(Thanks Ferroequinologist!) We also moved the Suburban work...
