    M109 rebirth into M48A2

Well, it's been a minute since I updated. COVID really makes traveling a pain so not a huge update. I was able to get a complete winch kit for the truck....I will probably add a rear facing PTO later to power the rear winch. On a related note, I found a trailer I am REALLY interested in...

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

I was able to track down photos of another similar trailer on this forum (how amazing is that) in this thread: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/show-us-your-military-trailers.52277/page-41. @maddawg308 posted it from some time ago, pictures definitely make me believe it's a mil trailer...

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

@Mullaney - 100%, agreed it would be a nice trailer to have. I'd love to find out more about it, capacity...etc to see if it's to big for my needs (5 ton truck is my the biggest prime mover I have). If I can get better pictures I'll post them. @wheelspinner - it does look a little short in...

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

How time flies, I have been traveling a bit for work and havn't had to chance to post on here with updates. I was able to get out to my trucks and check on them, all is well and they both started fairly easily. They definitely need a bath but otherwise, I am happy COVID hasn't infected them🤮...

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

This is how the 109 currently sits, note the broken out front window from a recent storm in Ohio where it is currently stored. It will be getting moved to Tennessee in the near future where I can more easily work on it and have my wrecker available for the heavy lifting. Sitting next to it is...

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

I was able to get over and look at the roller M275 this weekend, sorry no pictures but it was buried back in a private junk yard. The truck was mostly complete minus the drivetrain and a few non M275 specific parts. Technically I passed on it, after some discussion on here and some research I...

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

Conelrad, I agree, I had read some concerns on here about the single circuit brake system used on the trucks. Both of my Deuce's have had the brake system re-done and I would do the same on whatever truck I end up getting. I've seen a few threads on here about full air brake conversion on 5...

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

Does anyone have any thoughts on full air brake conversion vs a hydroboost type system?

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

The 915 is just rear wheel drive right? I'm worried with how rugged our property is that front wheel drive is a required option. My big 816 wrecker slides around in the mud some days...I'd hate to think of getting that much weight bogged down in the mud.

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

@simp5782 - I was hoping you would chime in, my end goal is something similar to what you have and delivered my CAT 955 on. @NDT - I have looked at the M916 (4wd variant of the 915) but it's out of my price range for a side hustle...if the venture proves out maybe I will invest and update to...

    M109 rebirth into M48A2

It's been a while since I have posted thanks to COVID and a PCS keeping us busy through all of 20 and now 21. I have started looking at a tractor type truck for some projects I want and possible side business when I retire. I found a M275A2 roller close and it got me wondering what would be...

    M109 restoration

Finished painting for the winter...it's hitting -20s here in Ohio and then warming up to 40. Obviously this state has lost its mind. Truck turned out pretty good, I will still need a 2nd coat before I call it done. For now I am collecting up new axle seals, rubber brake lines and other parts...

    M109 restoration

Finished the wiper mod today, I borrowed this idea from another SS member. I used Anco 4763 Wiper Arm Adapter and took off the military hook end. The Anco adapter for right over the factory arm and I used a machine screw to secure in place like the military end did. Super excited to get this...

    New Purchase...M816!

It definitely makes a lot easier dumping and less turning to dump dirt. I ain't getting rid of it anytime soon!

    M109 restoration

@fpchief - Second on the stitch welds... could you cut out bad and stitch in new panels? I ended up doing that and then using POR15 to seal the panels...it seemed to work well. My box is getting removed eventually to make a shop at my property and I will replace it with a drop side bed. hope...

    New Purchase...M816!

@porkysplace - yeah it has been a handy feature. I was surprised to see the 955s configuration when I first saw it. You can't see it in the picture but it also has the d4e winch on the back and a bunch of other options. Some on here think it might have been a railroad machine due to it's...

    New Purchase...M816!

Another trip in the books and the barn is finally finished. The temporary barn will cover my equipment for a few months while we dig out the hill to build my permanent 30x50 metal pole barn. All materials will be reused somewhere so no waste. Also a pretty epic pull off when the crane truck...

    M109 restoration

The 109 got new turn signal guards the old ones were pretty chewed up as well as a wiper mod to use off the shelf wipers. I'm also looking at a "brownie box" aux overdrive for this truck. More pics to come

@MudMarine: we are near morristown, how far is that from Franklin?

    M109 restoration

Haven't made a ton of progress on the truck since I have been TDY too much but I did touch up the box paint and am very happy with how it turned out. I also got two new headlight brackets as my old ones are pretty much toast. I'll be ordering new mirrors and swapping out doors for new ones...
