Blackout light switch bypass with pictures

I "simply" rewired the B/O light circuit/switch to power the plow lights! So, either headlights are used, or plow lights. Don't remember specific wiring changes, did this mod ten plus years ago.... Pretty certain I will never need blackout drive or do nighttime convoys (again!)

    M1009 Walker Exhaust

Still a valid part number, but looks like no longer available. This was a few years ago and at that time they were available....

Suggestions for leaf spring on M1009

I use ATS spring out of PA. (used them for shop I managed) They ship and are reasonably priced. Bonus: Use to deal with the father, would call and they actually knew what they were doing and knew what i needed! Their springs used to come out of canada. Regardless, they have always stood behind...

    Dash speakers

I installed 6x9's behind the seat. Could have fabricated the brackets but price was not exorbitant and my time could be better used elsewhere! http://www.73-87.com/Parts/7387SpeakerBrackets/73-87%20Cab%20Corner%20Speaker%20Brackets.htm

    M1009 transmission kickdown switch

I put a piece of fuel rubber hose over peg as it wasn't actuating . The 1/4" improved the downshifts!

    Cranking issue, '86 M1008, previously 12V converted

if you can pivot the starter you're missing a starter bolt. You stated "bolt", should be two....... Is one broken off???

    Brake Tube/Fitting sizes?

I buy rolls of nicopp and make my own. Will outlast the rest of the truck..... Like making my own so I can secure neatly. The nicopp bends easily by hand, much nicer to work with than stainless. The particular product I use comes with a bag of fittings. Unfortunately I'm in the rustbelt...

    Front Leaf Springs

I just recently BTDT. Went with 4 leaf spring packs as I wanted the additional weight capacity. Without the plow it raised the front end one inch. But, didn't drop as much with the plow due to weight capacity. I wouldn't add a leaf, spring packs aren't that expensive and you're doing almost...

    Portable 24V Slave Battery Pack?

Fix the problem, wasting time on "work-arounds" will never fix the draw!

    6.2L rear main seal replacement

Main seals on the CUCVs ALWAYS leaked. Drove them when they were new. Our Mnt guys would always ask how fast I was running as they would leak oil all over after running for hours at highway speeds! As for transmission pan gasket. Several years ago I started using duraprene gaskets at work as...

    Hard Start Issue

Only way to properly clean the tank out is drop it! And if I was dropping I'd just replace it.... Tanks can be had for $100 new. that will eliminate the contaminated fuel possibility......

    CUCV M1008 Build

At a minimum I would clean up the stub with crocus cloth till smooth. If it was mine I would replace the stub . In my younger, poorer and six kids days I would have just cleaned it up with the crocus..... In my old age I try to do things right so I don't have to do it again (ever!)

    Hard Start Issue

Water denser than fuel, hence will lie on the bottom. I personally would have drained all of it out and started fresh!

    LED Taillights?

There's a ground point behind the right rear taillight housing. Seen the ring terminal melt away, lose ground!

    Hard Start Issue

We had a waste oil heater in the shop i worked at (retirement job) and always had issues with donated oil.... Set the fuel containers outside (0 degrees here this morning) If containers sit water should separate out and freeze. Then pour the diesel off, leaving ice in container. Still only...

    Replacement Alternators

We used Amsco Valley forge for a lot of oddball stuff when i worked at the shop. Must have been alot of old timers there, you'd call with a question and they always managed to find someone that knew the answer off the top of their head! It's a wholesale only type place, but if shipping to...

    Steering box input seal leak

Been driving Square bodies and GM products for about 40 years.... IMHO no harm done using ATF. The leak/seal damage was inflicted by me while cleaning, blasting and painting the steering box! I always use the appropriate oil or lube on whatever i'm working on (for customers or self). GM...

    Steering box input seal leak

Thanks for the response..... Understand this isn't a "willy nilly" repair but not super technical either.... I've had issues with remans in the past, lots of issues! And even with a "limited" lifetime warranty, I have to do the job a second, and sometimes more, time!!!! Used to get...
