    Another M1010 owner

Used the same speaker brackets! Have access to fabrication tools, but they weren't that expensive and my time could be better spent! Also sound deadened with 3m deadner, and hunk of jute padding up in the cab "crevice" behind speakers!

Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Your RPM calc is close. Going to the larger tires only nets 2-300 rpm, not substantial in my opinion! A .75 OD will get you roundabout 23-2400 rpm at 65 with a 33" tire Going to 37's will require large lift, rims, tires, crossover steering, fender modification etc. When you tally up the...

Belts, hoses, any rubber bits that may be old. Check/change fluids..... Anything that could leave you stranded in Bum you know what.... Parts are a lot cheaper when they're available and you're not broke down! As for tires and lift, I would recommend NOT going that route. A re-gear or better...

    M1010 lower radiator hose

There's one on ebay right now per info above.... And if you search the NAPA number in ebay (on first item) there's another napa branded. Tried crossing to Gates, but they no longer make! But, crossed the NAPA number and came up with gates 21285..... With all of that said, looked in the 20P and...

    tree vs. cucv m1008

Yep, there's an issue with the height of the rear cab mounts. BTDT with a frankentruck at the shop a while back. You'd need the earlier mounts, think the change/break was in the early eighties.... Order mounts for the 78, not the 84!

    "Upgrade" for the Interior

The late GM replacements came to the military same color as yours, grey! I've painted them and other vinyl interior bits with the SEM paint. It works very well, used it numerous times. Restores color if faded or for color change....good product I don't use there prep products, just generic...

    "Upgrade" for the Interior

was talking about dashpad paint..... Spray can and works well

    tree vs. cucv m1008

Also, if you reframe it should be a one ton frame. Believe the 10/20 frames are different as the c channels are not as deep/tall. Also check the transfer case (and everything else underneath) real good. Have seen front axle hits destroy transfer cases....

    "Upgrade" for the Interior

Had my seat bottom professionally re-upholstered. (Seat back was perfect). He was unable to get a perfect match on material color, but was very close. He also repaired/rebuilt the seat cushion as it felt like you were sitting in a bowl and the edge was weak. I ws told it's common on 4x4's and...

    tree vs. cucv m1008

Generally believe frame pull is done prior to removing any panels or structure (ie rad support) . But. that question would be best answered by the person running the frame rack! Shop will need to double check/ measure frame, bend you see may not be the only damage...... Good "older" frame guy...

Down to the frame she goes!

Yep, had seriously considered a 101A3 tub until I started looking at availability and prices! Once again, the military sold for pennies on the dollar until the jeep and overland people figured out they were great off road for campers. Again, this would get blasted and painted........ Purchase...

Down to the frame she goes!

Lots of progress, but not done! Everything to include cab forward and below/mechanical is done. Body isn't show quality, was painted outside and or dead paneled..... Not so pretty, but it is solid! Used it to plow the driveway some this year but it's not on the road at present. Managed to get...

    Replacement Fuel Tank

Those tanks will rust..... How aggravated would you be next year if you didn't paint them and they had light surface rust? Just saying....

    Replacement Fuel Tank

IMHO, some primer and rustoleum.... nothing fancy. Undercoating wouldn't hurt, but should probably be over primer...

    Faulty Fuel Solenoid??

story at the shop i worked at.... Local good old boy had a truck which from time to time would die, then promptly restart. After a year of intermittent issue finally dropped tank and investigated. Well, the foil from the top of a dry gas bottle was swimming around in there. Would cut off fuel...

    Opinions on Undercoating

3M 08840. Easy to use, especially if it's softened in that good ole Southern sun! Easy to cut and form fit. Runs $80ish inc shipping for a box of 10 sheets. I did the cab floor and up the rear cab wall. Also did inside the doors! (Doors close with a thunk now) Gets rid of lots of the...

    Opinions on Undercoating

I'm a fluid film user also! Not a big believer in undercoating unless applied over epoxy primer/paint which is over fresh media blasted metal!!!! I generally soundproof the inside of vehicle. The 3M peel and stick is effective, and much cheaper than the Dynamat products. Have used both, and...

    M1008 retro build

Not sure which weatherstripping you're looking for, but see this link.... https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/m1008-glass-run-weatherstrip-and-felts.192128/#post-2251247 I used the precision weatherstripping for window felts etc. Quality was good, no issues Jegs seems to...

    Replacement Fuel Tank

The Sceptra tanks are around $100 shipped (GM1B). Made in Canada, have used many of this brand and never any issues. I always painted new tanks, they generally outlasted most of the vehicles they were installed in! I've gotten picky in my old age..... Won't spend a half a day cleaning a used...
