choice between 1970 deuce or 1987 deuce.

If you take a look at the rear suspension setup, you will see what they are talking about. Has a walking beam type of setup. Needs to be converted to a traditional leaf spring and shackle. Typically they shift the axle to line up with the new bed they use, usually off an m105 trailer.

Which 5 TON is the best option for a toy?

While I have never driven any other style of truck to compare it with, I do enjoy my M51A2. It's not fast. It's not quiet. But fun, just the same.

M35A2 military conversion to diesel only?

My 5 ton has the multifuel and it has a big yellow sticker on one of the fuel filters stating something about "diesel only, fdc has been bypassed". Some brakleen took some of the wording off so you can't read it, or I would have gotten you a picture.

    M715 hood numbers

When the FD painted my truck they didn't spray under the hood. That's how I found the numbers on my 5 ton.

    Off season storage

Sounds like a solid plan. Only suggestion might be a battery tender to keep batteries healthy.

    Merry Christmas!!!

Nice! I did a parade last week, but the generator for the lights quit just as we started moving out of the staging area. What are you using as a power source?

    Portland to Sequim (Hopefully)

My understanding is that you can't put m51 sheetmetAL on an m817 because the engine is longer. Unless, I suppose, if they also swapped in the multifuel.

2018 KAMO Rally Oct 5th-7th (Kansas Arkansas Missouri Oklahoma)

I got a chance to go down yesterday. Due to weather and other complications, I wasn't able to take my truck, but I did get to meet some nice folks. Had a good time. Got to tag along on a trail ride. I was impressed with what it could do. Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome. Hope...

Sludge in bottom of filter normal?

I agree. Looks like what I just took out of my m51. I found a combination of water, algea, and the oil I had tried to run (its the multifuel) mixed in with the diesel. I drained the tank, tried to rinse with some fresh fuel, and replaced all the filters. Only running diesel from here out.

    Wheel question

I thought it was only the hemmtt wheels that required longer studs? Or am I wrong?

Welcome from Kansas. And there's no reason to replace motorcycles, just add on to the fleet.

    LDT-465 loss of power

Mine(52 mack m51a2) was having trouble maintaining over 40 mph, then started to cut out on takeoff. Found water in the system. Draining tanks and swapping filters should hopefully do the trick. Not to hijack, but while changing the primary filter on mine yesterday, I noticed that the filter...

5 Ton tractor to dump conversion

One thing you may run into is that yoy may need to swap the front mounting flanges for the bed subframe over from the other one.
