    BBQ Convoy-Denton Rally Friday 14 Apr 2017

I don't think it's as busy, but still very active. Still lots of shenanigans with high power amps, power mics, echo mics, cursing, etc.

    BBQ Convoy-Denton Rally Friday 14 Apr 2017

Sure thing. Hopefully I will have it all hooked up and working soon. I'm using a Sigtronics SPO-62, which is a 6 position system, but it comes in 2 and 4 position models also. It's portable so you can just take it out of the vehicle and use it in another one pretty easily.

    BBQ Convoy-Denton Rally Friday 14 Apr 2017

Any more word on communications for the convoy? I have my aircraft intercom system working with my ham radio, just need to tweak the audio. I cleaned up my old CB radio too and will try to adapt that to the intercom next if we might be using CB. Also, so that we can pay ahead of time to hold...

    2017 Denton NC MV Rally April 13, 14, 15th

If you drive the hummer I actually have an intercom system that we can test out. It's a civilian aviation type, but I would like to see if the headsets and intercom work well enough to actually talk to the other person in the vehicle while you are screaming down the road at a blistering...

    2017 Denton NC MV Rally April 13, 14, 15th

That would be great. We had a lot of fun last year. I better start saving my pennies now, and keep a check in the couch cushions!

My morning usual is peanut butter, banana, milk, chocolate protein powder, ice, and a packet of Via instant coffee.

    2017 Denton NC MV Rally April 13, 14, 15th

And if you weren't already aware, The Classic Family Restaurant that some of us went to a few times burned down. No word on reopening yet.

Looks like I'll be bringing MRE's and the camp stove, dangit!

    2017 Denton NC MV Rally April 13, 14, 15th

Late to the game, but count me in. Maybe we start brainstorming on some kind of communications in case we do another convoy? I have capability to use ham radio, GMRS, or CB radio. If a number of folks have the blister pack GMRS radios like you can get at most electronics stores then that...

    M1078 Cold Starting & Ether?

You can use a can of starting fluid if you are careful. I have done this a few times, just use sparingly. Spray a little into the intake snorkel, just a short spray, wait a few seconds for it to start vaporizing, then crank it. If it fires up and then starts chugging you can hit it with...

    M1079 Power Question

That is correct. There is a large inlet connector on the passenger side towards the bottom rear of the van enclosure. There's actually an inlet and an outlet so the van enclosure could be daisy chained with others or other equipment. It's a large cannon style plug that is expensive to buy...

    M1079 Power Question

The truck provides power for small lights in the box (emergency lights) and for the marker/clearance lights on the outside of the box. There is also an air circulation fan that is powered from the truck I think. The overhead fluorescent lights and the 120v outlets are wired into the breaker...

    FMTV frame steel.... weldability?

The design I wanted to use is easy to remove from the truck when you don't need it.

M1078 camper in the Glamis dunes Thanksgiving 2016

I really like this build. I have also toyed with the idea of a 4x4 van like you mentioned. Camping and fishing on the outer banks is one of my favorite things and this would be the ticket! Thank you for posting the pics.

    FMTV frame steel.... weldability?

Any information on bolting to the frame? One day I would like to make one of the hitches that is sort of a 3 point design, with part of it resting in the pintle and two legs going back up to the frame rails.

High Speed Gears vs. Detroit-style Locker ... difficult decisions to be made

I would be interested to hear someone's experience with a locker in the rear and driving on the road in snowy/icy conditions. I have an older suburban with a Detroit Tru Trac in the rear and it does change the street manners. Some people say it is more dangerous as it can cause the rear end to...

    LMTV rear brake chambers

The size 12 is for the parking brake portion. If that is the one that's leaking, I would maybe replace the whole piggyback assembly rather than mess around with the spring in that portion of the chamber. The smaller size 9 is for the service brake and is what I replaced on mine.

Spotted an M1078 LMTV with a camper on the back

He modified an existing Passport camper. You can't really tell from the low quality pic, but he cut it and filled in with sheet metal on the front, and where the wheel wells were. The spare tire is in the existing location. He cut the camper so it fits on the existing cargo bed.
