PSA Mag articles related to FMTV

Ok somehow I missed that original posting. If no one has a nice zipped up archive then maybe I'll start trying to compile one as time permits. Thanks!

PSA Mag articles related to FMTV

Does anyone have a collection, or individual PSA mag articles related to the FMTV/LMTV? I have seen a couple of them which I'll post here, but it would be nice to start building a library of them.

S250 Comm Shelter Project - HAM & Military Radios

The Flex 5k is a nice radio. I like that you have a Cisco IP phone in there too, LOL. Thanks for the update!

    Tire balancing

I would recommend checking this toe-in anyway. On my truck it was way off and can contribute to faster tire wear if it has excessive toe-in.

Frequent Towing: pull axle shafts, drop u-joints, or install 2nd trans oil cooler

I don't think flat towing an LMTV would be enjoyable at all on a routine basis. I have pulled the M1082 trailer, which only weighs about 6500 lbs empty, and my M1078 drove noticeably different. The truck downshifts faster on hills, the fan runs more, etc. All of that would be worse towing an...

    FMTV CTIS system

That's pretty slick. I like it!

    Air Brake Info and Troubleshooting

My truck finally developed another air brake leak. This time when applying the service brakes (pedal) air was exhausting from the front Service gladhand. The harder I pressed the pedal, the more air escaped. As you can imagine the truck would quickly lose air pressure. The problem was once again...

    FMTV cargo cover frame assemblies

Maybe mine is some kind of hybrid frame. It has square drop in style pockets for the horizontal poles to snap in but all of it is steel. The vertical pieces do break down, just not completely on mine. Mine didn't have any of the leaf springs either, but they could have just been left off. The...

    Jobsite Assault Vehicle

I like the battery connections. That would make it easy to add accessories, battery maintainer, etc.

    FMTV cargo cover frame assemblies

I think you could do that. As long as you have enough of the vertical supports, then all of the horizontal poles are just tube/pipe of the appropriate length. There are at least two frame designs, so if you end up buying two then make sure you get two of the same. for the long wheelbase truck...

Air leak, front emergency gladhand, no air at rear gladhands

Look two posts above yours and follow that link. I have the part numbers listed.

Are hydraulic winches hard to come by?

Mine is a winch truck, but like snowtrac said, they are not very powerful. It is rated for 11k of pull on the first layer of the drum. The truck empty with winch weighs over 18k. It is only like 6k of pull with a full drum. The line is pretty long so you can use a snatch block, but still. I do...

    LMTV Air Brake Issue...

Were you able to isolate the air leak?

    LMTV Air Brake Issue...

It may also be a faulty service brake diaphragm. Crank the truck and let it build up air pressure, then shut the truck off. Chock the wheels. Have someone else press and hold the brake pedal while you are under the rear of the truck so you can find the exact place the air is bleeding from. The...

    No Parking Brakes 1997 M1078

Just to add to what NDT said, do NOT try to disassemble the back half of the brake cans. That parking brake spring is no joke. You can buy a whole replacement piggyback unit and just swap that whole section out.

    No Parking Brakes 1997 M1078

It's been a couple weeks, got it fixed yet, or anything new to report? I'm curious to see what the fix is.

    No Parking Brakes 1997 M1078

When I first got my truck I temporarily capped the front emergency glad hand. It's bad I know, but my parking brakes still worked just fine. Maybe that's because of a leak I had somewhere else, who knows. I fixed the two way check valve causing that leak and uncapped it. The parking brakes...

    No Parking Brakes 1997 M1078

You mentioned that there are air lines going up the the frame that aren't connected to anything. Those are vent lines; they are intentionally open. That doesn't fix your issue, but at least you know why those are open.

Troop seat alarm on a m1078

It connects to a cannon plug on the back of the cab I believe. Not the one up high, that one is for a rotating wrecker light I think.

Oops. Try it now. Tried setting them to just "unlisted" for now.
