    First Post-YS carb identification

The flange nuts or holes are turned 90 degrees from each other. The two nuts looking at the top curved air horn face front to back of the jeep on the 637, left to right on the A1 or 950. This is with the air horn pointed at the air filter. Early M38's with the 637 have a square knob facing...

    Turbo replacement

The hardest part is the 4 nuts holding it to the manifold. The rear ones were seized on mine and I had to heat the nuts up red to get them off. A little at a time. If you twist them off, drilling them out will not be fun. You might need a new gasket if it is damaged. I pre oiled mine before...

Stump the experts question of the day

My '52 A1 has the 4 groove pulley and 100 amp system and they are all the same. At a idle when the alternator kicks in, it pulls the engine down and you have to idle it up to keep it running. What a beast. No wonder they have a Warning of death by shock on the antenna. My '51 M38 looks to have...

    Vacuum wipers

Yes, they are not going to work going up a hill with the throttle opened up, you lose your engine vaccum. The double fuel pump will help, but they still almost stop. You just let off the throttle, wipe accross, and get back into the throttle or use your hand. Downhill is great!:driver: Be very...

    Dented hardtop fix

I did mine too, porta power with blocks of wood. Do a little at a time. Don't push it all at once. Raise it up, and tap around the area to set the metal. Don't jack up on the bands, jack to each side of them. If you jack up on the round rivit/bolts of the bands, they will make a outside outie or...

    New Deuce to South Dakota

If you go to Deuceman's compound, plan on spending some time there. Troy is a bad influence. There is 2 more of us over here in the Black Hills. Welcome to the green disease. Stop in if over here on the West or "Good" side-----LOL. John

    Ok, The Mystery Continues

I had deuceman51 tell me to watch the short hoses on the inboard side of the intake up top. He said if they are bad, you can get antifreeze into the engine. Is this a possible thing to look at for you???? I'm no expert. PM deuceman51 and ask him. He is a fulltime Nat. Guard mechanic and knows...

    m38a1 voltage regulator

It sounds like you have the newer solid state regulator without the domed cover. The ground straps and rubber mounts were to protect the unit from vibration damage. I'd keep the solid state but find the rubber mount system and put it on. John

    Ellsworth Deuce Recovery

Glen, glad you made it. If you get back to the Hills and want a cold one and some good war stories about green stuff, stop in. I as you, have had nothing but good experiences with SS guys. Bring Troy along when you come, he can show you where I'm at or call and I'll come get you. Nice looking...

    titling help

In my state of SD, they have changed. You have to sign a personal release form and they do a nationwide search. If they find a past title or previous owner, you have to send certified letters to him asking him to get a duplicate title. They won't give you his personal info. like address or phone...

    Dodge Trannys and PTO found

My neighbor was hauling scrap to the salvage yard. I have two Dodge M 37's and he said he had a motor and tranny he'd sell me if interested. I bought them from him. After I got home, I noticed they were a little different. No synchros, different shaped things etc. One is complete with bell...

Long distance " Sweet Spot" M35A2

Thanks much for the chart guys! Experience is the best indicator, but the chart made alot of sense since it shows fuel consumption like a constant hole draining. The torque , and HP show about the same thing my Dodge Cummins showed me. 1800 - 2000 RPM's would be a good range to hold it in on the...

Long distance " Sweet Spot" M35A2

My Dodge 12 valve P pump Cummins gets 19 MPG at 65 MPH and 2000 RPM. At 70 -75 it drops to 12 MPG. That includes pulling a trailer. So, besides putting on lockout hubs, what is the " Sweet Spot " for a Deuce to maximize your MPG? I've been told they get around 8 MPG stock. Up to 13-14 with hubs...

Help Stuck!! Trying to help came back to bite me!

The Romans and even General Custer's expedition would simply make their own road by laying posts side by side and bridgeing over bogs. You first will have to jack or lift it up to ground level and then place your bridging. I've been stuck in a water bog like yours. Had all three vehicles stuck...

What is the lowest temp your deuce started in

15 degrees, but! I have a solariser that kept the batteries tip top! I did have to open the throttle 1/8 petal while cranking well. It sounded cold so I let it idle at 5-800 RPM for 10 minutes or so. I have a Kats soft plug heater for real cold. Much easier on all if you plug it in for a hour...

If you need tires and wheels!!!!!!!

If you haven't noticed, some of the 101A1's 3/4 trailers have M37 wheels and tires the same as the M37. I bought two that had brand new ND tires as spares. Painted the rims, and mounted them on my M37. I put the older trucks tires and wheels on as spares. The cost--------------to buy a couple of...
