Steel Soldiers MV of the month 2015 - November VOTE HERE

Oil field Roughnecks's "brother" offers his vote. Not enough snow to fire her up, went with the John Deere blower.

    PRESSURE is DANGEROUS

Couldn't agree more. I mistakenly worked on two of four tires with split rims (14x24's , 90 psi) before considering if they were split rims or not. Luckily I was only using a wire brush on the rims to clean and paint, but pulled the tires off fully inflated (had to use a hydraulic ram on one...

    Check your coolant

A few pictures I took of a neighbor's tractor engine. He needed help "diagnosing" why his tractor wouldn't start, so helped him figure it out: ran it our out of coolant, and kept running until this happened: Yes, that's molten aluminum on the sleeve walls. Check your coolant.

    Hi from Chicago

Welcome from Chicago Burbs! I rebuilt a Detroit 453 two winters ago, one of the most satisfying things I've done. No experience.....just a repair manual, engine hoist, engine stand........and a ton of patience. I'd go for it if it's not a daily driver and you can make the time.

    3rd Battery and Isolator

Isolator is the way to go. I've got a cole hersey for a parallel battery set up (two car batteries).....start using both, use one when running.

    Mice and mep002a

Ditto on the steel wool. In Wi we had a mice explosion.....got into everything. I had to rewire a portion of the 925's battery box ...and used steel wool in the breather holes to keep them out (in the cab and the one on the back of the cab). I'm afraid to pop the hoods on my mustang and Chevy...

VIDEO: Russian TU-95 Bear Bomber Shadowed by RAF & French Fighters (Interior View)

Very cool! The contra rotating props are still amazing on a "modern" aircraft. That Typhoon pilot gave the Bear crew a "looksy" of what he's carrying....as a reminder.

H 140 heater, remote control not working

Thanks Tom......I've hauled a lot of gravel from our local pit with the 817......it's a real workhorse. If you get a green light on the remote control box when switching to fan ......but nothing when you switch to heat, could be the CO detector has crapped out (there is a test button on the...

H 140 heater, remote control not working

Hi Tom Have you tried the selector switch on the unit itself (should have a screen door latch as a "safety" to move selector switch to remote control from manual control)....? Also, these units do not like GFCI outlets for power. They are great units, very well built. I just checked the...

    Dakota Skytrain C-47

Here's a video of it from years ago (I'm the guy with JSF F-35 hat on).....more gray hair now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgN7toNH3ng Here is a video of the real C-130 it's based on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zdLzLb-4fg The pilots, flight crew were absolutely awesome in...

    Dakota Skytrain C-47

I actually started out looking for an aviation related chair. The company I called had an F-4 ejection seat converted to an office chair, but had sold out......and then they asked : "Well, what's your favorite aircraft".....and I told them about my flight in a C-130 after build a 1/10 scale...

    Dakota Skytrain C-47

Yep.....I'm one of those guys. I picked this "desk" up a few years ago from a group that cuts up old aircraft to make furniture. It's an outer flap off a C-130A. I asked if they had any paperwork on the plane they got it from.....unfortunately no.

    My fleet

Call your bank....a wire transfer fee is NEVER more than $25-$30 if done domestically. They are Federal wires.....same system every bank uses. The cost is in the person pressing the approval "button" and the liability of them making an irrevocable error (i.e. accidentally wiring your money...

    Red Footwell lights

I'm adding two of these under dash on a piece of construction equipment I've been refurbishing: http://www.rigidindustries.com/led-lighting/40151 They work very well, but not so bright to cause a reflective issue. I scoured the market for alternatives, but most of what I found was cheap...

    Roadside safety: Stay Alive!

Excellent post. I always drive off the interstate with a flat. I've been a witness at a highway rear end accident (guy was changing rear driver side tire on a pickup, was hit, thrown through the back window of his truck while walking towards back). This happened in 1988 during broad...

    Choctaw H140 heater cycles a lot.....normal?

I'm using off road diesel, about 115-120 psi ......I've checked the filter multiple times, clean as a whistle. I considered maybe a viscocity issue, but off road diesel is for the most part regular diesel with dye in it (diesel without taxes). I've looked for potential issues (as these...
