I just saw a ton of Sherman/Stewart sprockets in Ohio...

That helps put things in perspective. I was not completely unaware of the plight of the halftrack and weasel owners as those vehicles or a Brenn Carrier were all also on my radar at one point or another. Replacement tracks was one of the things that stopped me from pursueing those. I just...

I just saw a ton of Sherman/Stewart sprockets in Ohio...

Thinking about it. I found one in semi-running condition but if I can't get parts and drive it at least occasionally... I will look at other projects. The engine and drive train I don't think will be a problem, like with any vehicls it is always about the "consumable" parts.

I just saw a ton of Sherman/Stewart sprockets in Ohio...

While looking at an auction for "Cletrac residue" I noticed that said residue was sitting on top of a pile of Sherman drive sprockets and transmissions/differentials and tracks. I also noted an idler wheel for a Stewart..... and some other "demiled" armor parts. Are there armor part junkyards...

Missouri MV titling under attack and review

Perhaps off-topic... but maybe not: When does an M35 or an M818 cease to be a military vehicle and become a "hot-rod" or "home built" vehicle? This could become a VERY handy distinction to make when having troubles titling our vehicles.

Missouri MV titling under attack and review

I'm glad I never had any of these problems when I titled mine... although I thought I would.

Tons of AWESOME info but . . . why "bob"

That is the best advice you will ever see concerning whether or not to Bob a Deuce...

Tons of AWESOME info but . . . why "bob"

Bobbing a Deuce is personal preference for the most part. The advantages of a Bobbed Deuce: Losing an axle gets you COMPLETELY out of the CDL territory. Technically, anything with a third axle is a commercial vehicle REGARDLESS of what it is used for. Most cops may not be aware of that and...

Status of the Military Salvage Yard in Rolla, Missouri

I talked to the guy at the local surplus store just South/West of Rolla less than two years ago. ** I NEVER VERIFIED THE FOLLOWING** He told me that the owner of the yard actually had TWO yards. One was the one facing the main road that you could see where the large amphibian used to be...

    Can anyone identify this device?

I have to admit that when I first saw the thing I assumed that it was a ground support generator for the heated suits figuring that pilots flying out of Alaska who waited on the tarmac for the ground crews to finish their work would like to keep warm. Then I realized that this was fairly...

    Can anyone identify this device?

One of the guys here at work called it "Mechanical Folk Art" and thinks somewhere there is a market for such ingenious items...

    Can anyone identify this device?

What it SAYS on the front is kinda irrelevant to what it actually is. It has an aircraft generator on it but I know for certain this thing isn't an airplane. My guess is that the heat suit panel was added for the switch to control voltage/amperage to the output for welding....

    Can anyone identify this device?

I guess my next question should be: "What is the value of this?". I am sure that is the next thing my neighbor will ask. He is not a collector and would rather this go to someone who would appreciate it. As a whole, I don't see any real value here myself. In parts, I see some individual...

    Can anyone identify this device?

    I think Mechanix is correct.

    Can anyone identify this device?

My neighbor picked this up thinking it was a generator. I have no idea what it is. Looks to be a cobbled together pile of parts from old Army Air Corps support equipment. WWII Something or other pictures by mongosarcade - Photobucket

I will see about getting the wife to dig through my old Somalia photos...

Free Stuart in the port and ready to ship!

EVERYTHING in Somalia is free.... as long as you or the guy you hire is well armed. I also remember flying over an abandoned Sherman just North of Baden Baden (I think... maybe it was Baden Wurtenburg) that was in the middle of a farmers field surrounded by shrubs and trees. I doubt I can find...

Free Stuart in the port and ready to ship!

I never climbed in it when I was over there but I remember it looking complete from the outside. The sand had long blasted off all the paint and it was all dull steel and surface rust... except for the seams. I remember that the armor plates were not welded but "brazed" as the shiny brass...

Free Stuart in the port and ready to ship!

The bad: It is at the Mogadishu New Port. I spotted it during Operation Restore Hope. I will have to look through my old pictures and see if I have some good ones of it (doubtful) but here are the Google Earth coordinates of it if anyone wants to hire some of the recently unemployed Somali...

    What are parts worth?

The dude pulled them together this weekend. He said he had them sitting on some pallets. He is using the axles for a mud truck.
