mep 802a -- mep803a source for panel meters

Does anyone have a known source for the panel meters on the 802/803? Specifically, the 60 Hz meter, the % of rated current meter, and the AC voltmeter. All the others are fairly straightforward, but I'm having some difficulty in finding the above three. z

how to get on base --- Warner Robins?

I got on the base fairly easy, picked up my "stuff" and got off. It took a while to work my way through the queue in the contractor entrance, but the MP's were pleasant (although well armed) and the process wasn't bad. Perhaps it was 'cause it was September 10th. Now, the folks at G/L were over...

crane, indiana ---- three good experiences

The folks at Crane are easy to get along with and very helpful. The base is reasonable in terms of getting on although it is spread out over tens of thousands of acres with roads mostly going through the woods.

how to get on base --- Warner Robins?

Are there any tricks or hidden "gotchas" to getting on to pick up an item at the Warner-Robins base? thanks z

    fuel pump part number 802a/803a

I have noticed that on some of the 802a / 803a gensets that there is a second type fuel pump. One type is the Facet cube that we all know and love(?), and the other is a round cylindrical pump. Does anyone have one with this cylindrical pump? If so, what is the manufacturer and pump model /...

looks like another 802A restoration thread

I think that most of the Crane units that didn't have all the "black boxes" removed were in pretty good shape -- albeit that someone went through them with a wire cutters when removing parts. I'm part way through my second unit, but the first unit started right up once I got all the parts...

    MEP-802a not charging

The 802a has an alternator. The difference being that the regulator is integral to the alternator housing. You may want to load test the batteries -- one or both could not be taking a charge. I'd also look for mis-wiring. Double check the wires to the exciter and the load. Also make sure that...

    MEP-802a not charging

If you leave the batteries connected with the main switch in the OFF position, do the batteries drain? Where are you taking your voltage reading? You might try running the battery (ies) down a little. Connect a light to 'em for a few hours to cause them to discharge and then re-install...

mep-802a -- brought back to life!

Uhh - belay that last post... If you are making electricity, even at 25 volts your rotor/stator should be OK. So, go for the diodes if they are bad, but keep an eye on the voltage regulator.

mep-802a -- brought back to life!

I'll be parting out two of the 802a's that I have. I believe that both have good generator heads; one has a bad engine, and the other is just old. That will still leave me a couple more to get going. I started on another one today.. I also have some parts on hand that I got from an 802a that I...

mep-802a -- brought back to life!

I picked up some 802a's from Crane, Indiana in a recent auction. They all were missing a lot of parts and had some cut wires.. After some concentrated effort, I fired up one of them today (47 hrs) and it made electricity!! So I sat there and basked in the heat of the day for around an hour or...

looking for alternative fuel shut off solenoid for 802a -- any experience on this??

I am working on a genset that did not have a shut off solenoid on it when I got it. Anyone ever install a different shut off solenoid on an 802a / 803a??

MEP-802A Totally Dead 24 V, Help me I must be stupid??

For an entirely different reason, I was sifting through the schematics and the hardware associated with the fuel sender(s) and liquid transmitters. I usually make a drawing of the circuitry just to get my arms around the problem. As usual with these units, the wiring is very logical, awfully...

    MEP-802A Batteries

I used a couple of 51R's last time, but next time I'm going to use ONE 51R and ONE "normal" 51. That'll allow me to keep the terminals away from the battery hold down hardware.

    diesel fuel lift pump question(s)

Trying to get a little education on diesel lift pumps... What is the relationship between GPH and PSI? (now, I know what the two are, just trying to determine how they interact with each other.) Can one compensate for a lower GPH with higher PSI? What effect does either higher or lower PSI...

    10 kw generator mep 803a

Back to the 803a... With K12 back in place, remove K19--That would be the second from the right relay, and see if CB1 pops. If not then the problem is in the float switch circuitry and we can isolate it further. If the breaker still pops, replace K19 and disconnect the connector going into the...

    10 kw generator mep 803a

Well, you just eliminated about a third of that circuit as being the problem. At this point leave CR5 alone since it isn't causing the "pop" of the breaker. What you might do next is to swap the K12 relay with the one next to it (to the right not left) just to make sure that the relay itself...

    10 kw generator mep 803a

I would be surprised if one could substitute a different voltage regulator successfully. The quad winding supplies the AC that powers the regulator -- that's all it does, and it uses a permanent magnet for excitation. Think of it as a "fourth" phase/winding -- hence the name "QUAD". Its only...

    10 kw generator mep 803a

The relay K12 is the second from the left -- If you open the control panel you'll see a string of 6 relays. The K12 relay is the second from the left. Be sure the unit is turned OFF before removing the relay and that it is OFF when replacing the relay.. Diodes will all be CR, followed by a...
