    Mep-802a compression question

You should be able to turn the engine over fully with a ratchet and you will hear compression leaking into the crankcase while doing so. Compression leaks past the rings while cranking slowly, mainly due to the speed it is turning and the lack of high cylinder pressure which helps seal the...

    MEP 1040 won’t start

Note the word LOAD test, not Voltage test. Too many folks overlook that fact that a bad battery can quite often show a surface charge of around 12.4V, making if appear to be fully charged, but throw a load at it and there's absolutely nothing there to back it up! If ever in doubt, get yourself...

    MEP-802A Fuel System issue.

Ugh, that means the line is frozen to the nut. Some heat and penetrating oil should help free it up. Try rocking the nut back and forth rather than continuing to unscrew it. If you wreck it I probably have a spare in my parts stash that I can part with.

Can I run 12 volt LED's from a single battery on my MEP802?

No, what Kurt means is that you want to switch the 24V power going into the converter, not the 12V power coming out, otherwise the converter is constantly sucking up power even when the lights are off. Depending on what size converter you get that would mean either a switch or a relay feeding...

Wondering about a JETA Power MD-301815, TMs, etc

It's like restoring an antique car. Spend $X to restore it to like new, so that it will then be worth $X-25% if you're lucky. Probably like everything else, you'll spend more than its worth on the restoration. But it's the cool factor and the satisfaction that makes it worth the effort!

    MEP-802A Fuel System issue.

Are you holding the lower nut and loosening the upper nut? In the picture it kind of looks like the lower part has been turned, that isn't correct.

Acquired Another MEP-802A - A Couple of Questions

    I assume you were thinking 240V x 32.4A , not 120V per line.

    MEP-803A Low EGT on 1

Did you ever check for fuel coming out of each metering pump? Post #5 you said you were going to check, but never posted the outcome, this is a very important piece of the puzzle. I doubt your governor is non-functional. Without the governor you wouldn't make it to 40% load without seriously...

MEP-803A Long time reader first time poster

I recognize that exhaust pipe, I have the same pipe in my parts stash, think it's from a laundry trailer perhaps?? One or 2 words of caution: I use mine often to test machines in my shop, The pipe gets pretty hot even fairly far away from the machine after load testing for a while. Also, they...

    Mep 003 injection issues

If you end up finding that you have 1 or more bad injectors I can rebuild and pop test them for you. First get everything cleaned out as best you can, including the fuel pumps and screens. Then fix the glow plug connectors and verify they are all working. ( hold switch for 30 seconds and the...

    MEP-802 generator

Another important piece of info, does everything else on the control panel work except for the ability to start the engine? Fuel pumps run with switch in the Prime / Run position, gages and meters work etc? Is this machine new to you, or did you one have it working correctly and all of a sudden...

    MEP-803 compression bypass by injectors

Humm.... have you been able to get a good close-up look down in the hole to see if you can see any pitting, crap or a crack? A crack is unlikely, I'd be betting more on something preventing the washer from sitting flat. Either a ridge, gouge or a piece of crap stuck down in there.

    MEP-803 compression bypass by injectors

Yes, had that same issue a few times. Assuming you had everything clean and did not have an extra washer stuck down in the hole... My advise is to take it apart again, make sure the hole, the washer and the injector are all clean. Reassemble and tighten the bolt. Take a hammer and something...

Acquired Another MEP-802A - A Couple of Questions

I have to wonder if this is true across the board, or do things differ across the US? Here in New England there is a difference between #1 and #2 Diesel, The viscosity. #1 is blended with Kerosene to lower it's viscosity for winter use, which also gives it a higher Cetane rating. For the tax...

    The river has gone dry

Well, maybe some states but not all. I used to do a lot of antique auto restoration and RI wants to tax us on "full restored value" when you try to register that junk yard find you just purchased! Imagine buying a chassis and a pile of parts ( mostly in milk crates ) for $3500 then being told...

    The river has gone dry

Most of the good machines dried up years ago, then prices went through the roof on the remaining junk around here, so I all but gave up buying them. By around here I still mean a good 19+ Hr. round trip depending on traffic. But honestly I'm really surprised how long the 80X series has been at...

    MEP-002A Not producing power

Probably should ohm out CVT-1 per the TM to see if you have an issue there.

    MEP-002A Not producing power

Open up the AC reconnect box and look for mouse nest / damage. That's the most common place for them to build a nest and cause damage!

    Another No Voltage thread, MEP-003A

Best thing to do is get in there and measure the CT and CVT-1 windings according to the TM. If you find a problem, then you know what parts need replacing. If CVT1 is bad I can sell you one of my spares. But beware, make sure that's your problem because swapping out the CT/CVT assembly is a bit...

    MEP 803 smoking under load.

I'm not 100% sure you have that spring on there correctly. I believe the straight side of the spring is supposed to push against the side of the block and should rotate the lever clockwise when the solenoid is out of the way. The TM does not give very good instructions on how to install the...
