    Ether Start Assist

I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly about needing 4 batteries just a few months ago. But after owning 4 of these trucks with nhc250's in them, I have come to realize that 90% of the trucks will start and be reliable with just 2 good batteries. The exception to this is northern extreme...

    Ether Start Assist

Use ether only when in a pinch. Check/clean your battery cable connections. Make sure you have 2 good batteries. Every nhc250 powered 5 ton that I own has a coolant heater. I can start mine after being plugged in for 2 hours in 5 seconds of cranking or less. The only time I need my...

Had some problems with my tractor today :(

Drain your air tanks. Make sure the air dryer is working correctly. The ambient temps combined with wind chill effect while driving will freeze air tanks and circuit valves fast. I have experienced loss of brakes in a dump truck due to freezing moisture in a relay valve. I removed my ppv on...

    M939 Inconsistent air pressure...

Throw that ppv in the trash where it belongs...... Carry a spare new air governor with you in the truck. Drain air tanks daily. Add some alcohol to your air system to deal with moisture, especially in the winter months.

    Battery question for M-813 w/855

Above advice given by Karl Kostman is very good. I run 2 batteries for 855 cummins, and they will start well at 30 deg. F. I use 2 interstate mtp-65, they are short, fit well into the battery box under the seat. They also have a much better warranty than any group 31 battery, which is...

    5-ton Questions

Please keep in mind that when these trucks were placed into service, the national speed limit was 55 mph. Also, these are all tactical trucks, and as such their usage is usually 70% off road, 30% on road. The height of these trucks also dictates a lower top speed. 56 mph isn't a bad thing...

    5 ton 12v 5.9 repower?

Make that 3 of us. This is why I enjoy this forum so much, because of folks like Willwagner. Thank you for the knowledge. So is it worth replacing a nhc250 that is overall in good shape but has bad liners with a used 8.3l? I think that liners, main/rod bearing set would be a quicker easier...

    5 ton 12v 5.9 repower?

If a NHC250 with bad liners is replaced with the 8.3l Cummins, Why would a person never have to worry about replacing liners again? Isn't the 8.3l wet sleeved also? The reason I ask is that I am in the same situation as acme66, my last truck purchased made it most of the way home and then...

    M939A2 5 Ton 6TN 6TL Battery Replacement

All batteries in the series have to be replaced at the same time, because of different internal resistance in the older batteries. Basically, when only one battery is replaced, the others try to equalize it and drain the newer one. They form a circuit and become "one" when connected...

Singling out the rear of a 5 ton

Oh yes, the whole bed. install some rather large hinges in the front, use cab air leveling bags from a class 8 commercial truck, and the air leveling valve to maintain pressure/ride height. After you have raised the bed 3 inches for proper travel, the additional clearance will allow for the...

Singling out the rear of a 5 ton

Install air ride seats in the bed? Mount the bed on some type of airbag system? I really do enjoy your videos on Youtube.

M925A2 Pickup Questions Ft. Riley KS.

Tires mounted on rims will be available at Ft. Riley, just ask and have cash with you. If that doesn't work, go to Glen at BFR Metals in Salina KS. He has tires and parts. I am located at exit 60 off interstate 35 if you break down, I have tools, 5 tons, towbar and pretty much anything...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Added a 110 volt coolant heater today. Making sure I can get "weeds" the tan 5 ton started easily, so when it snows and ices I can go pull people out of the ditch.

    Rebuild Date?

How does the seller being a member here affect anything at all? If the truck was misrepresented to the buyer, then I could care less what the buyer is a member of. One bad apple is all it takes................
