The new cap would not sit flat in the metal cover. I had to file a little bit of plastic off the three bump outs where the screws go through. As you can see in the first photo, the area that was rubbing and binding. Quick fix but took time to find out the problem. The new cap is made of Lexan I...
Old line removed. New line fabricated. No blood or four letter words believe it or not. New line installed. Took some time but went smoothly. Fuel coming from tank and no air bubbles or leaks.
From Doc:
I went from lawn mower gas tank to Mite tank and found that the line was plugged. I cleared the line and then found that there was air bubbles in the fuel filter. Air was being dragged into the gas. No leaks anywhere so must be above the gas tank. Put some low pressure air in the...
Welcome to Steel Soldiers!! :-) Have you looked at CUCV's? I have a M1009. I LOVE it!! It's fairly easy to work on, easy to find parts, easy to park, easy to buy tires (31x10.5x15 is a common size), gets 20 MPG, seats 5 comfortably, can be used as a daily driver, and runs all day at 65 MPH on...
I'm putting together the details for the Orlando Veterans Day Parade. It takes place on Saturday November 12. I will create a thread and blast out PM's with all of the details soon. Stay tuned!!! :-)
I zip tied a small x-bar/t-bar lug wrench to the spare tire frame of my M1009. I also zip tied a 6 ton bottle jack to the frame in case the factory jack isn't enough to lift up the truck. Sorry I don't have any pictures to share.
Found this picture yesterday while cleaning out the cell phone...
I agree, 86m1028. I knew I was forgetting something in my list but couldn't put my finger on it. My truck has a huge transmission cooler. Transmission fluid runs straight to it and bypasses the radiator.
First off, welcome to Steel Soldiers!!!
I have towed 4500 lbs for 300+ miles at 55 MPH with my M1009 using a Class III hitch. I don't feel comfortable towing much more than 5000 lbs, even with my Tekonsha trailer brake controller.
This thread has pictures of my hitch setup. It is bead welded...

A while back, I pulled the fuel pump off and shipped it to Then and Now Auto. They did an absolutely stellar job of rebuilding the pump. They cleaned off all of the crusty paint and installed new screws. I'm sure it was easy for Doc to install the new components. No rusted screws to fight.
From Doc: I decided to work on something that had nothing to do with the motor so I made up a mirror mount from the Skycraft stash. I squeezed my eyes real tight like Forrest Gump and came up with this. Real close to a M series rear view. From thought to fabrication to painting and installing in...
I just got off the phone with Then and Now Automotive. http://then-now-auto.com/
Ted was great. He told me that they build the fuel pump rebuild kits in house, and they are ethanol fuel tolerant to 20%!!! :-) The cost of the kit is $47.50 + $8.50 shipping. I'm so thankful that they...
