M1009 possessed by Satan still won't start

I know Wreckerman is highly intelligent and knows a lot about many different subjects. I'm not sure if he has any experience tweaking flux capacitors, though!!!

M1009 possessed by Satan still won't start

First things first, Wreckerman. You have to talk nicely to and about your CUCV. It's picking up all them bad vibes you're throwing out. It doesn't want to cooperate - in essence it's being ornery to to spite you! ;-) If it really IS possessed, you might have to call in our beloved Chaplain to...

Scrapping ALERT: Somebody Save This Rare Truck

Rumplecat - It seems like you have a substantial amount of experience with these trucks. Call the owner. You have nothing to lose. The 2,000 mile round trip might be well worth your time and money.

M939 Series 5 ton as Daily Driver?

I was a lot like you. I ABSOLUTELY REFUSED to take out student loans. I paid for my freshman year out of money I saved. I couldn't afford my sophomore year. I had to either stop school, work 3 minimum wage jobs, or take out loans and finish my degree. I ate $26,000 in student loans. I paid them...

M939 Series 5 ton as Daily Driver?

I have to be brutally honest with you, 71DeuceAK. Focus on your education first. Bust your tail, take a full 15 hours per semester during fall and spring, and take a full load of classes over the summer terms. The sooner you graduate, the sooner you can get out into the workforce and make some...

M939 Series 5 ton as Daily Driver?

The 5 tons have power steering and auto transmissions. There is more leg room in a M939 series than in a Deuce. Drive both first, and imagine what your life could be like every day living in the cab. Imagine how much interior space you will lose when you add insulation. Deuce wheels weigh less...

    New somewhat stock looking tires.

I have a full set of Duratrac's on my M1009. I'm very impressed with the traction on wet and dry roads. They have a pleasant hum at 60+ MPH.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Drew - Please keep an eye on your new belts. Advanced Auto only sells Dayco. Dayco belts stretch out within 1,000 miles and keep stretching. I've run the tensioners to the max on every pulley because of Daycos, and they still slip. I ONLY buy Gates. They're cheapest on Amazon.

    Roadside safety: Stay Alive!

I also clip amber flashing bicycle lights to the frame in front of the trunk when I drive the car at night. I bought 3 for $10. They are multi function, so I set them to flash the same way.

    Roadside safety: Stay Alive!

When I first got the car I drove around with my heart in my throat, terrified that someone would hit me. It felt like they were trying to push me down the road. Some of my fellow Model A Club members have the orange triangles on the backs of their cars. Living in an urban area leads me to think...

    Roadside safety: Stay Alive!

Over the past year, I put 1600 miles on my 1930 Model A 'Alyssa'. A's accelerate at about the same speed as a fully loaded Deuce. Everything on my A is mechanical. She accelerates slowly. I run her at 45 MPH MAX. She stops when she's darn good and ready to stop. Four wheel mechanical drum brakes...

    New to the CUCV club..

You're very welcome, sir. My M1009 is my daily driver. I need it to be rock solid reliable, and it is. I think the Rancho stabilizer was well worth the money. I've received far more knowledge and information from SS than I've contributed. I documented the entire process of my rebuild to give a...

    New to the CUCV club..

Mikey - Please read through my thread before you drop the coin for an alignment. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?125140-M1009-Tie-Rod-End-Replacement-Project Inspect all front end components including bushings, hubs, bearings, brakes, and brake lines. I can almost guarantee that...

My CUCV is named 'Vinnie', and my wife named her Mighty Mite 'Jeannie'.

    removing diagnostic wiring harness!

I have no plans on removing the one in my M1009. It doesn't interfere with the operation of the truck, and I've found other places to mount accessories. I put my trailer brake controller on the lower left side of the dash. I mounted a switch for my KC HID lights near the brake controller. I...

Door switch for courtesy on M1008

I use cheap Harbor Freight magnetic 27 LED flashlights in my M1009. I leave them attached to the ceiling of my truck. The magnets are strong enough to hold them to the ceiling under normal driving. When I need light, I reach up and turn them on. Simple, cheap, and easy solution. :-)...
