Welcome to Steel Soldiers, Mr. Zuray! :-) You got a great deal on that 1031! Your name sounds familiar to me. Are you one of the gentlemen on a certain cable show that highlights the challenges of life in rural Alaska?
When I was young, I didn't know anything about safety. My sperm donor (biological father) did nothing to instruct me about proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This lead me to learn things the hard way. At age ten, I tried removing a stuck Allen head screw from my minibike. I...
Thanks for the reminder, Chaplain.
My story: I have severe keratoconus in my left eye. It's shaped, quoting my optometrist, "like the tail light of a '59 Cadillac." (a cone, hence the name) He also called me a "medical anomaly" because I have perfect binocular depth perception. My brain...
jpg - I have 2 tubes of NO OX. I use it on the battery terminals of all of my vehicles. It's great stuff! :-D One tube will last the average MV owner nearly a lifetime. You don't need much of that stuff on the posts and the terminal threads.
My M1009 had an aluminum radiator with plastic tanks. I replaced it with a 4 core Modine brass beast. I had to modify the driver side mounting bracket to accommodate the larger sized radiator. I cut the bracket in the middle with a Dremel and welded a small piece of angle steel to it.
I know the song very well, CUCVRUS!! :-D
MAZ537: Congratulations on saving an M1008! It is definitely restorable and mostly complete. Don't feel bad about the radiator being MIA. Chances are you'd have to replace the sucker even if the truck had one. Plastic tanks always crack.
Scott,
I have a little different view of the problems you're facing with the brakes. I'm SO thankful that you are working on it in your back yard under a tree. You have access to plenty of tools, food, water, and your air conditioned house. You can take a break when you get overheated. You...
SD T16: I've had the pleasure of riding in Plain Jane Doe many times! :-) I've known your parents for over over a decade. I met them when I was a member of the FFC. Did you have to use her during all of the flooding in NPR?
Search the web for used Type I Ford ambulances. It would be easier for you to modify an ambulance into a camper than to pull the panels off of a HMMWV and mate them to a F450 chassis. HMMWVs have aluminum bodies, and the frames look nothing like a stock pickup configuration.
The Wolo's work off of the horn button. I inserted a blade terminal connector into the connector that attaches to the horn. I ran a short section of wire to the Wolo's and butt-connected the wires from the Wolo's and the wire extention together. I can easily hook up the factory horn if I ever...
M1008BOV: I installed Wolo 120 Dual Stainless Steel Trumpet Horns. They are marine grade 116 Db, and do not require an air tank. They work great where I have them mounted. My post #1394 in this thread shows you what they look like mounted on the driver side fender well...
Sgt. Haas: When my daughter was 2 1/2, she started hugging and kissing my M1009. She said "I love you, Vinnie!!" I melted. It was the one vehicle that she ALWAYS fell asleep in. The sound of that 6.2L knocked her out every trip. She loved riding in and climbing around Vinnie. I told her that it...
staplesSalvage: It sounds to me like you'd be better off starting a new thread in the CUCV Hot Rodding and Modification section. That will help you keep all the information about your build in one place.
