    CUCV Mystery part?

Let me ask a question because I don't understand this whole 'death wobble' thing. It seems to me like if your truck has death wobble there's something that needs to be fixed, and the stabilizer is only dampening the wobble. Is that even safe to do? Seems dangerous to me if you make the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I picked up one of these laptop charging carts from the state auction for $56 and carried it home in the M1009. They have sold on the auction for between $50 and over $100 and the retail is around $1600. It wasn't very useful with the shelves being so close together, but it was very easy to...

Has anyone installed a pre-lube system?

The idea behind the pre-luber was to have oil pressure before you crank your engine, and after the engine is shut off. Mine has a brain-box which is really a timer that controls when the pump comes on. So you get in the car and turn the key to run (just before start) and the pre-luber pump...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Back in the 80s a friend was changing the oil in his new Camero in the barracks parking lot and the filter would not come off. He asked me for help so we tried everything we knew using everything we had- no luck. The strap wrench just slipped. So he gets the idea to drive a screwdriver...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I guess one stubborn filter in over three decades of changing my oil isn't bad. I've never paid anyone for it. I always fill the filter with oil and lube the seal before install; hand tight.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Sometimes the simplest things.... I planned to do an oil change before we went out today, figured 30 to 45 minutes tops. Pulled the nose of the truck into the garage (because that's all that fits) and didn't even bother with the ramps, just rolled under with the creeper. Drained the old oil...

Has anyone installed a pre-lube system?

I have one in the garage that I bought for a turbo project I was going to do in my Mustang II back in '84; still have it.

    CUCV Ham radio antenna bracket

Here's the link: http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/hamantm/6458.html Wide band coverage: 144-164, 380-520 and 696-870 MHz I added the radials; the manufacturer suggests that for fixed mounting you bend the radials down at 70 degrees, and even though this is a mobile application, the...

    CUCV Ham radio antenna bracket

Here's a shot of an alternate antenna I'm considering. It's a Compactenna and I added some radials bent down, as the antenna manufacturer suggests.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Bellows AFS in Oahu Hawaii. Very private beach setting away from the tourists and crowds. Probably not for the single guys- few single women on the beach. It's one of the few military benefits left for us retirees. There are several sites in Hawaii for active duty and retired military.

    CUCV Ham radio antenna bracket

I actually found both of mine on the local craigslist. A guy had an M1009 that burned down when the oil sample line broke loose and sprayed hot engine oil all over the hot engine. He had two brackets and I think I paid $20 each for them. Ebay or here in this forum are the other two best...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I parked mine in the driveway, chained the steering wheel with the padlock, and flew to Hawaii for the week. We have a beach cabin at Bellows AFS for the week. This is the view from the back door this morning.

where to find 12 volt power

Working from memory.... Open the driver's door and locate the hood release T-handle. Follow the cable to the firewall. Directly below that hole there should be a plastic disk about the size of a half-dollar; pull that out. Unless the rubber parts of your truck are all rotten, that should...

    M1008 Wont Start/Need Some Help

The wait light should not be coming on when the engine is already warmed up from running. Mine will sometimes click (or thump) loudly when I hit the starter; I can tell it's drawing mega-power and it acts like the starter is jammed on the flywheel and not turning. I immediately rotate the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I spotted it on craigslist for $100 so I jumped. It was stored in an attic for several years as the original owner never got it installed on his K5. He got it from Classic Car Parts.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Finally got enough dry weather to paint the dash. I decided to go ahead and install it. The old one came out easy enough but that's where 'easy' ended for the day. Of all the projects I've done to this truck installing the new dash was hands-down the most miserable. I completely forgot about...

Spring has sprung and time for new springs on the CUCV's

Slather the anti-seize compound on thick when you install your new hardware. It'll make it a lot easier the next time around.
