You could try putting trans fluid in a spray bottle remove the air cleaner and fog the intake while someone turns over the starter. When I had a problem getting my filter to charge I did this and kept it running long enough to fill the filter and IP.:-D

Once you pull the filter it will take quite some time (cranking) for it to refill with diesel. You may choose to replace it with the walmart setup (30$ in the boating section) it offers a spin on filter and thus you can prefill it. This make filter changes a breeze.

Best way I have found to clean a STEEL radiator is muratic acid. It will remove lots of crud quick just never use it on Aluminum or plastic. I use 100% flush for 5-10 min then drain, flush with water, flush again with water. Then put in new coolant. Aways wear cloves and eye protection. Muratic...

Heater can mount under the passenger seat. I have a coolant run heater in my M109... I put it in last winter and have not had a chance to test here in NC. Good luck on the hardtop, I don't see many that are in good shape for sale often.:-D
