When you get a new engine, shoot me a PM. I'd definitely be up for helping swap it in. I'm just 90 mins away in MA, so if you'd be interested in a hand (or just some company), give me a holler.

The single-axle trucks are "2 1/2 ton" rated trucks, but that is their MAX capacity (even on-road) as opposed to the traditional 2 1/2 tons (M35s, etc) which are 2 1/2 ton off-road but 5 ton max capacity on improved roads.
Hey Greg--
Out of idle curiosity, do you have any pictures of the finished products for some of the dataplates that you've recreated, as you mentioned above?
I'm just eager to see how they are turning out (I've always been one for pictures, anyways!).
From someone that has studied sustainability alongside engineering in college, the ability to use a variety of fuels, especially renewable fuels and waste as fuel with little energy spent turning it into fuel, is a very sustainable idea.
Before people start being silly, "sustainability" is not...
Hey Ferro--
From poking around on Wikipedia, I see that the 80-tonners are powered by 470 HP Cumminses. Does each loco have dual prime-movers, each with it's own generator? I'm just curious as to how the center-cab layout works mechanically.
You are wearing hearing protection, right? Even with a muffler, the exhaust noise (especially combined with the rest of the road noise) is still damagingly loud. This is coming from a decent amount of personal experience.
There is a free Vector Graphics program out there that I know many people have used fairly successfully. It is called Inkscape and is available here: Inkscape. Draw Freely..
I'll see if I can't find some decent tutorials for it, too.
If I'm not mistaken, they use CNC (computer-controlled) laser engraving equipment. It looks like the biggest challenge is taking the existing dataplates and creating accurate computer representations of them to tell the machinery how to engrave the material. Based on this, the difficulty when...
Here's the tread from one of the first remote m/c installs that I recall seeing on the site:

Oh, duh, it's an A4. (Sorry, I missed that part.) Still, sounds like your truck is running just fine.
A wise person once told me, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I responded by saying, "If it ain't broke, I can fix it 'til it is!"
Have fun with your truck!
Does your truck
a)start up without too much hesitation
b)idle smoothly, especially once warmed up
c)have enough power for it to run up through all gears on level ground and up to a cruising speed of around 50-55MPH, even with a load in the bed
d)maintain speed up a hill once dropped down into...
Did you double check against the diameter of the holes that they have to go through? Also match the screws up with any spare nuts you may have lying around, and then see if you can figure out what the size is from there? Another option is head to the hardware store/hardware section at Lowe's and...
