Craig and I were discussing load shed earlier. His controllers are capable. Some programming and a 24vdc control powered contactor. Probably a two pole 25-30amp contacts. I think it should be fast enough. Our control system offshore has multiple layers of load shedding capabilities, should be...
Thanks to everyone for a very good discussion on wet stacking, very informative and much appreciated. Only thing missing is Guyfang's input on the subject. Love the stories.
Well my philosophy from now on is to simply have a little heater or some other extra load when supplying load to whatever that doesn't keep load up in proper load range for the gen set I am using. Seems to be simplest solution, especially when running a RV who's load is only 30% when A/C...
Thanks for the input. I wasn't sure if it was more of just a risk of muffler/exhaust fire or if engine damage was plausible. I had seen pics of one at auction a while back that had slobbered around manifold gasket until whole side of motor was covered in gunk and the area around flapper was...
Another question. How long duration of a run before it becomes a problem? If it takes a while to become a problem, then you could manage by really loading up periodically to clean up? If it happens quickly then just adding load to get to that sweet spot of 60% would be simplest solution.
We had same discussion about adding a heater out at unit to add load to to keep temperatures up, was just exploring options. I had not thought about exhaust system adding to problem, but definitely makes sense. I posted because I figured if the thought had occurred to me then someone else had...
A few fellow SS members and I were talking about generator sizing, which ended up in discussion about wet stacking by not keeping enough load on gen to keep exhaust valve hot enough to keep sludge from building up.
My question for the group is would it be feasible or even make a difference if...
That is exactly what mine does when I start it and the issue with k12 gets me. It will run at really low rpm with switch off and without magnet capturing target. I suspect that the reverse polarity may just be a pulse to get target heading toward magnet where it can make its capture but not...
I agree that this is what has to be happening, because I have been chasing a intermittent fault in my k12 fault relay circuit. The gen would start but would not get the reference to ground that the the fault module provides through the k12 relay. The engine will start but I have to pop the hatch...
I believe we are going to have to give you benefit of the doubt. It is sitting in a military trailer, can't tell what exact color is but appears to be close. But to be a full fledged member we are going to have to get you something with a military designation. Then you can become addicted to...
I to am following along on craigc adventure. When time allows I am going to have to try those out.
Here is another tidbit I will share.
The governor module on the 831's seems to be the weakest link, IMO. That being said they are available at OEM for $328 plus shipping. They have some in stock...
I'm in similar situation. Home on weekends, Houston during week. I have 831 in back of truck that is kicking my butt, however I will find gremlin at some point. I hate intermittent problems. But at least in my situation I can carry mine with me.
That is my next purchase. I want 803 to go with stable of 802, 831, mep-018a, or 5kw single phase single cylinder duetz by stewart stevenson. Told you I love gens. But if and 804 pops up, might have to have one of them as well, but that would be about as big as I could feasibly use, and then...
All the generator guys certainly are quiet. Did we solve all of the troubleshooting issues and everyone's gen sets are running like a champ? Just wanted to see an auxiliary equipment post. All the big steel guys are always having problems and posting like mad. Just trying to determine if Guyfang...
