What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

No, I did not have to touch the B-pillar. I had to loosen the passenger side of the A-pillar hinge a bit to square it with the roof.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

Pulled the installed Red Dot A/C components and hoses. Capped and left compressor on engine for now. Started installing Plan B hard top and back curtain. All aluminum parts are CNC cut and fit well. Some easy riveting and rivet nut installation required. Very complete kit; Plan B even included...

    Hard-top vs Soft Top

True for any hard top. Painted dark it will be a pretty good solar collector. Interior insulation is a must both for heat and noise reasons.

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

My (new) truck is running fine but I went ahead with a fuel filter change. What a PIA. Surprisingly difficult to get at for a frequent maintenance item. Finally got it out of there. The filter element and screen looked new but there was some gunk in the water separator. Upon reassembly one of...

    Hard-top vs Soft Top

Well, I went back and forth on the decision. Finally decided to go with a hard top. I ordered the Plan B aluminum hard top and back curtain kit. Since it is built to order, it will take a few weeks to arrive. Will keep you guys posted.

    Softer Springs

I'll be following this thread as I'm in the same boat. M1123 with armor removed. The springs are massive, I'd guess 1 inch diameter. Ride is punishing on anything but smooth pavement. Would the H1 springs fit the A2/1123?

What type of steel fasteners for aluminum?

Don't know why I thought stainless would be the answer. I remember stainless screws causing the paint to lift for inches on a aluminum radar arch on a saltwater boat. Good news is that I did not see any corrosion between OEM fasteners and the truck body. Maybe the truck spent most of its time...

What type of steel fasteners for aluminum?

Quick question. I ordered some stainless steel bolts, washer and nuts to mount tailgate, C pillar and cover the armor mounting holes. But after reading up on it, it looks like stainless would do more harm than good on aluminum. What type of surface coating should I look for instead? What is the...

    Hard-top vs Soft Top

Appreciate for your feedback. So you are not experiencing any droning in your hard top caused by resonance of the metal roof with noise from the tunnel? Since the two surfaces are parallel and made of unclad metal there would be standing acoustic waves between them amplifying noise. Of course...

    Hard-top vs Soft Top

I'm trying to decide whether to go with a hard top or soft top for the 4 man conversion. I was leaning towards soft top but then I saw a couple of videos showing the installation of the Plan B hard top and rear curtain. Seems well built and includes the C pillar which I need. The soft top I'm...

Connector/Breaker in Co-pilot rear seat compartment

Thank you, Coug. You guys are awesome. I suspected the breaker was for the transmission ECM. I'll leave the umbilical cord socket alone. The connecting plugs are pretty expensive. It will be simpler to connect the charger to the slave plug.

Connector/Breaker in Co-pilot rear seat compartment

I'm converting my 2 seat truck to 4 seats and found this 2 pin 24V connector in the right rear footwell. It is live. There is a also a breaker behind the panel accessible behind the battery compartment. What was this connector used for? How do I find the mating connector/plug? Might be a good...

    STE/ICE Delete

Sorry. The signals on the connector are a combination of analog (changing resistor or voltage values) and digital (voltage pulses). There are many small/cheap micro controllers with built-in input and output. Arduino is one of them. $10-20 for the basic micro-controller that can be programmed...

Very nice. Sounds like a good project for long dark winter months.

4 wire cable next to dog house

I removed the two bolts on top that hold the rubber grommet. The two nuts below plus the metal reinforcement fell off. This allowed me to pull out the cable from above. My wires did not go the battery compartment, but to the two main power studs penetrating the battery compartment below where...

    STE/ICE Delete

Interesting. Would be pretty straightforward to build an Arduino based A/D converter with display for an electronic read-out of the signals.

    6.5 non turbo intake gasket

My 64 Corvette had this heat riser valve on the passenger side. Probably a good idea when you commute in very low temperatures. Downside is it will rust out the passenger side muffler quickly when you do short trips due to moisture accumulation. Easy to remove and replace with the fuel injection...

Battery imbalance. Related to dual voltage? Trying to understand electrical system

If you have two batteries in series, the voltage on each battery depends on the internal resistance of the battery. No two batteries are identical. That is why charging two 12V batteries with a 24V alternator will drift out of balance over time. If you draw one battery down with 12V loads...

4 wire cable next to dog house

I removed the cable today. While the cable looked beefy, it is all insulation, the wires inside are tiny. Barely can see any copper. I checked for voltage- there was none. Turns out the demil guys had cut the 4 small wires just below the grommet under the truck. No fuse in mine, directly...
