What have you done to your JEEP today

New carb on, fuel fittings sealed and not drippy, radiator flushed and filled (it has a leak naturally), it starts and runs on it's own now with no hesitation. Good oil pressure, holds around 25 or so once it warmed up. Probably going to get a new exhaust setup. Again, the hack job by the PO...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Man, it's been a headache the last few days. Messing with the mechanical fuel pump, it works off the block just fine. Mount it, no pressure at all. Of course, initially I had it plumbed in reverse! In my defense, I'm so used to having the inlet facing the rear of the vehicle, that's how I set it...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Forgot I had smaller ones! Cleaning up the tool boxes today and ran across these, so ya know I had to install them. Little drill and tap action and they're ready to go.

What have you done to your JEEP today

You are correct, I was informed that they were either cadmium or zinc plated. Don't know why I didn't think of that to start with. Part of my job is plating....

What have you done to your JEEP today

What you do on a day when the big projects are basically on hold for whatever reason. Made a beauty plate to cover up the cluster of holes in the dash and cleaned up the seat frame chains. Interesting how one is a gold toned metal and the other is steel grey.

What have you done to your JEEP today

This is from a few days ago, I was pretty happy to hear it run for the first time in over five years. But, like the link reads, throttle shaft is toast. Gotta get that straightened out before I can move forward. So, today was a slow day. I took the cushions off the seat frames and cleaned...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Stuck my floor pans in today, pedals attached and leak checked the patch in the fuel tank. Had one small seep, took care of it, and now for the internal cleaning of it.

What have you done to your JEEP today

Absolutely correct, I have an early. Delivered May '53. I surprisingly still have the correct fenders, but somewhere along the line, my battery box cover was altered. Still has all the thumbscrews, but all eight tabs were cut off the sides and a stud was added to each end.

The grille unbolts from the radiator and the inner fender wells and can be swung face down. This allows the entire powertrain (radiator, engine, trans and transfer case) to be taken out as one unit. That's pretty much the reasoning, but yes, you could get to the fins that way too.

What have you done to your JEEP today

I bounced around a lot today. Clean here paint there, just didn't feel like it was a very accomplishing day. But, I got the grille painted, and mostly reassembled. I swept up the pile of paint and filler remnants, really didn't feel like laying in it if I didn't need to. I don't want to even...

What have you done to your JEEP today

I spent a good five years building commercial mufflers, I know a few tricks. What I ended up doing was after welding up the three inner sides (almost, but not quite to the outer corners) took a hammer and slowly beat the edge down to match the radius. I really didn't cut too far into it, so...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Today's project. Went rather well, with the exception of out at the seam, where some of the lead solder remained. Had to grind out and re-weld a few times to burn out the solder. Gonna try performing electrolysis on this tank, it needs a good cleaning out. Got some headlight pieces primed...

    Just a few more gallons.

What have you done to your JEEP today

I did a thing today....and I totally understand now why it's easier to take out the entire power train at once! But, it's back in again, and I have this huge clearing in my shop now, odd how much space an engine on a stand takes up. Got this A1 tank today for the low cost of shipping it from...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Agreed 1000%! It sure wasn't a beauty when they finished it, so I'm not sure what they were going for.

What have you done to your JEEP today

Ok, all the big parts are done! There's still all the small nooks and crannies yet, (wheels and bumpers too lol) but it's time to move on to some very minor body work. I'm not spending a ton of time on it. Just filling some of the bigger holes is all, otherwise I'd be spending the next month...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Fair enough! Even though there's plenty of other faults I've deliberately left lmao!

What have you done to your JEEP today

Down to the front fenders and grille left to clean! I'm going to wait on the windshield frame until I can get new glass, that way new seals can go in a freshly cleaned unit and I don't have to be concerned about tearing up the ones currently in it. I'll finish cleaning the writing off the inside...

What have you done to your JEEP today

I have the time, and most of the know how, so why not do it while I can! The wife has been very understanding and hasn't given me any grief in the last three weeks. Now I know it's not going to be smooth and wrinkle free by any means, but it's definitely going to be better than it was when I...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Today was fix someone else's "fix". Cut out section of floor board that had rotted out. It had been patched with some thinner sheet of something. Wasn't aluminum, sure didn't feel like steel and acted like tin but was polished on one side. Cut up into the toe board for a little more strength in...
