I came across this site http://www.militarytrader.com/military-vehicles-news/buyers-guide-the-hmmwv which says that the 6.5L was introduced in 1994 with the M998A2. The truck I bought reportedly has a 6.5L but was built in 1989. Is it likely that this got a new engine if the listing is correct?

Yeah, those are all things I'll report on when I get it here. I just heard from the shipper. Sounds like it won't be picked up until either Wed. or Thurs. and not delivered for 6 or 7 days after that, so it'll be a little while.

LOL I though you might chime in. I'm in one of those icky northern counties (Loudoun) and that's why I did all the leg work regarding emissions. I think I'm doubly covered because based on age, the 1989 is an antique and as such is exempt from emissions anyways.

Having just researched this for my state (Virginia) here's what I found out. Other states will of course be different: I called the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (the DEQ) and they said that in VA, only diesel vehicles that are OBD-II compliant are subject to emissions testing...

I'm going to need to put a light on my license plate to pass the VA safety inspection. I'm looking at these...

I bought a 1989 Plan B M998 yesterday I've heard really mixed reviews on the Plan B trucks, but we'll see. It doesn't require EUC/HHA and has a DMV issued title in Utah, so I'm hopeful that I won't have too many issues. I'll post pics when she gets here in ~10 days. In the meantime, here...

Apparently the moderators here don't have a sense of humor, as my last intro thread got deleted, so I'll keep it short and to the point: I'm in VA, just bought an M998 from GovPlanet. It's a Plan B truck so no EUC/HHA issues. Should be here in about 10 days.

Jumping in just to follow along. I just purchased a Plan B M998 and live in Loudoun County. I'm hoping my experience with registration is not nearly the cluster-f*** of governmental red-tape yours has been.
