Thanks, I have seen a couple of guys on SS that have done that. I like that option as all I can see is just cutting the donor deuce bed about 3' and mounting it behind the spare tire carrier and tool boxes. No doubt a ton less work!! There are pro's and con's, the biggest advantages I see in...
We are planning on cutting 3' out of the deuce bed which brings it down to a 9' bed and mount it right behind the spare tire assembly. It appears to be a perfect fit. Then remove the tandem axle and position the single axle in the middle of the frame / bed.
Thanks, I had emailed John a couple of weeks ago as I had purchased his spin-on kits for my former deuce a few years ago, but never heard back. Indeed it is a very nice build.
So yesterday, we did all the planning for the bob on the M931. Add the 1400 Michelin singles (4), use the deuce bed, cut out a 3' section, re-weld the bed, remove the tandem axle and center the single axle on the frame. Air bag vs spring suspension still up in the air. Thoughts????
Donor Deuce bed found and it is in decent shape for $350.00. Hope to pick it up this weekend. The plan right now is to leave the spare tire / tool boxes in place, cut a section out of the bed to fit and re weld it.
I found a take-off deuce bed 3 miles from my house. I am going over tomorrow morning to have a look at it. If the price is right and it is good shape, would you guys say that I could cut-down that bed to size with cutting the frame of the M931, leaving the spare, toolboxes in place?
So,if I understand your post, my M931's Cummings 250 can be upgraded with a turbo, so I hope to add Super Singles after the bob is done and if I add a turbo upgrade to the engine, would I have the equivalent of and M931A2???
Thanks!
Just got my M931 and drove it yesterday for the first time. It shifts and runs great. Looking under the hood for the first time, I found a spin-on filter which appears to plumbed into the radiator coolant lines??? Do these Allison transmissions have both an internal filter and external...
Looks very brute!!! Thanks, just want a more over-road function rig and prefer a single axle setup. Did this with my M35A1 and it drove almost better than my Wrangler. I just found a deuce bed (take-off) in NH. Do you guys that this bed (cut down) will work?
Matt,
My buddy that bought the M931A1 wants to do a tire swap (equal value) for his Michelin's Super Singles for my 177's. But he if has a change of heart, I will give you call. He has a brand new spare and 6 1400's with about 80% tread, in great shape. Mine are brand new. Air-ride seat...
Thanks, your mod looks great! For what I read of your thread, you cut your frame and welded it back to make the bed fit. At point did you make the cut in the frame. At the end or in the middle. How does it handle with tandem axle and shorter wheelbase? Thanks for the help!
The birth of Mr. Zeus - Bob Build Thread - Phil's Work is outstanding!
Well guys over the next couple weeks, Phil and I will be planning the bob on my M931. I am going to swap my G177's for his Michelin 14 Super Singles. My only option at the moment, unless I can find a cargo bed and cut it...
