The gear ratio reduction from the engine/transmission combo to drive train is going to be a killer,
you might want to consider a overdrive unit in the system,
I payed $136 per year for insurance for my 1st truck, and $36 for every other truck including my m274 for a year- It's predicated upon you driving record and amount of tickets you received in
the last 3 years.
In Illinois your basic D/L weight restrictions are 16,000 LBS GVWR or Gross Vehicle Weight restriction
other wise your good to go- make sure you check with your insurance agent regarding the vehicle
insurance requirements -some companys don't like to insure 40 year old trucks.
I have owned several deuces over the last 15 or so years, and have never pulled into one of those state weight stations- I have zipped by several dozen of weight stations and have not been pulled over for failure to pull into one.
Offer the owner lets say $500 so he feels some what good about the deal, but in the same breath kinda mention you gotta have it towed and all the seals have to be replaced, fuel line purged and the fuel tank drained, put in batteries, don't even know if the engine turns, fuel injector has to be...
Thats what you get when you buy a 40+ year old truck, most of not all civilian trucks have been junked over 20 years ago. It's a project you do it because you want to, not because you have to LOL. :roll:
