    Loose Nuts & Bolts

P M C S . . . that about covers it. Not trying to bash or be a wiseguy but these things are nothing but GIGANTIC vibrators when running. Anytime I am within reach of a fastener I AT LEAST try to turn it by hand. I am constantly eyeballing rivets and welds for "shinys" or cracks. The only...

    New XM818 made it home!

As said, major props for the wheel / tire swap in the parking lot. Inner Budd nuts have been "thimbles" to me since I worked on my first truck. I would love to put 16.00's on mine but she's already 11' 6" tall AND I would lose a lot of ( possible ) articulation. That truck ( M818 ) looks...

    G177 tires on Deuce

If the tires are the same size as what was there I don't know why there would be an issue. I'm actually considering using commercial drive tires all the way around when I change to singles. As for the steering kit, I am not familiar with that mod but again are the tires the same size and on...

    Hydroboost help

Plumbing is plumbing. Put a tee somewhere and make lines or hoses to go where you need it. I am not familiar with the specific system you want to explore but with the right parts, enough money, and enough time anything can be done.

Won an M1083A1 - 1900 mile recovery trip soon! (ND to CA)

Wow ! i knew you Navy folk are brave ( you take Marines where they need to go ) but 1900 miles in an unknown MV ? I was nervous bringing mine 60 miles from Philly and it HAD been gone over from stem to stern by Eastern Surplus where I bought it. Sounds like you know what yer up against...

    5 ton camber adjustment

Then like Will said, jack up the front end and check the kingpins, bearings, knuckles, and hubs. One other thing, are your wheels "true" ? No idea for a spec. without digging but excessive radial run-out can kill front tires fairly quickly too. If that were the issue though you'd probably...

    5 ton camber adjustment

Yup, what he said. If the bushing(s) are worn the angles will be off. Last I knew ( 25 years ago ) there were no "offset" bushings for Rockwell's but who knows what is available now. Unlikely, but ya might have a bent housing. Monster trucks bend 'em often. They can be straightened but it's...

    Brakes come & go

Sure sounds to me like your "new" booster is malfunctioning. As i said, I am new to this thing too but trying to learn fast. Any advice I give is based on what I've learned so far. Use only after careful consideration. One other thing to check I think, make sure there is air pressure at the...

Yep! I am pretty sure a lot of the military CARC came from just down the road in Wilmington, DE. DuPont's main place at the time. It's nothing mysterious, just hafta use the right equipment when dealing with it. Epoxy primer is actually even worse but it's the best thing out there so it'll...

Yes, it was a 2 part urethane with isocyanate compounds for toughness. Worked great, smelled HORRIBLE, could kill ya if mishandled. Dupont looooooved their chemistry. The top coats we're the same chemical base modified for tintability and gloss.

    Brakes come & go

My suspicion would be that the piston inside the pac is in a position that is actually stopping the fluid from going to the w/c s ( as yet unproven to myself ). When mine are unboosted they feel just like old fashioned manuals, 1/2 of free travel then stiff with maybe another 1/4 - 1/2 inch...

    painting over carc

FROM MY EARLIER : The GOOD news : if it's in good shape, there isn't a better surface on the planet to paint over. As noted above, clean, no bare metal ( prime with epoxy ), and a little rough ( it's normal state is perfect, or roughen with 320 if shiny ). Once those conditions are met, spray...

    emergency brake

I don't think many people were initiated that way... Those who learn operate a vehicle with three pedals are a rapidly fading group. The trucks coming out today with power everything and automated engine / trans. combos are the future. Until the "new" future. When the sun drops a big E.M.P...

:ditto: But the YELLOW DEATH thing was really hammered home when a friend almost died from spraying it the same way he sprayed lacquer at the time. PPE was flip-flops, shorts, and a Hawaiian shirt.

    Brakes come & go

Not assuming ANYTHING but this sounds VERY similar to what I am chasing. Excellent pedal while bleeding. Sits ( a couple days ) and pedal disappears and fluid disappears from m/c with no sign of leaks anywhere. I have been told the problem is the air-pac. Internally fluid leaks into the air...

Maybe a WC-12 saved from the scrapyard

Sad, but salvageable. Definitely needs gone over but as long as the block is solid all the other "stuff" can be replaced.

    Axle swap or not

If you can get a 4" lift for $250 AND it's a complete kit, JUMP on it ( $100 an inch for solid axles is the "standard" ). It will fit. All solid axle K trucks used the same springs just with different numbers of plies for the GVW. A 1/2, 3/4 ton setup is identical. The 1 ton added another...

    emergency brake

That's exactly why Civvie cars with manual trans. have a "clutch interlock" switch now. I did the same thing in my dad's '66 Chevy pick-up while on a date trying to turn the key to Acc. to play the radio. Ooops !

71DeuceAK, dunno where ya got the cyanide intel but it is false. The "guilty" parties in the dust / fumes are isocyanates ( think super glue ). This is what makes this coating stick "like glue" and be "tough as nails". Dupont had a similar (chemically) product under the Imron brand...
