Welcome from Alabama. There are plenty of things to look for but you are probably aware of most of them with the Suburban. You will probably want to add 2 cycle oil to the diesel for lubrication for the injectors and the injection pump.
My gauge is usually in the yellow until I gently smack it with the end of a plastic bottle, then it jumps into the bottom of the the green. These gauges are old and not that great. It has been working like this for 3 years. I would be really happy if mine showed high green like yours.
You are going to eliminate the radiator part of the trans. cooler? I was told that if you add an additional cooler you still run the fluid thru the radiator after it exits the add on cooler to keep the fluid from being too cold. This is the way I did my 83 C-20. I am wanting to add a cooler to...
Good luck on removing the bumper. My M1009 obviously sat in the weather for 27 years. The only real rust on it was under the bumpers and the the supports for them. When I had the vehicle painted in the body shop the bumper bolts had to be cut off with a torch due to the bumper bolts being...
I have a new OEM type $450.00 copper/brass radiator and a new aluminum heater core. The heater core was only around $30.00. I am really wanting the new radiator to last as long as possible. I am thinking that the heater core may work as a sacrifice for the system, but to be sure the seams in the...
Have you got this figured out yet? I think I could probably measure the distance of the top of my tube to the bottom of the pan with a piece of stiff wire, maybe a coat hanger, then you do the same. This should tell you what is going on.
Concerning the voltage of the radiator. How could the radiator not be grounded to the block since it is continually connected to the block by water which would ground it???? There is also the steel lines from the transmission to the radiator also making a ground. I am planning to put a magnesium...
Stock M1009, except ungraded fluids. If I hit the interstate I head up close to 70 to reduce the chance of being rear ended. It sounds great at this speed. I only have the dash speedo so I don't know the exact accuracy or the top end speed, but it will go way past the end mark of 85 mph. I have...
1986==M1009====Installed new AC air filter with foam pre-filter and Fel Pro breather to intake gasket. Checked for oil pan and rear seal leaks. Only a slight dribble from the rear. This is a major improvement. After reading someone's post here on the function of the CDR and oil filler tube cap...
I am interested in sound suppression and lessening vibration. I can feel the excess vibration thru the body. Today I ordered a new OEM style fuel pump. The one on the engine is leaking at the top all around the seams. I can only guess that this is caused by the excessive vibration. My 1983 Corps...
That is a good point. I will use the lexan. Increasing safety is another one of my goals for this vehicle, probably the most difficult to achieve or most expensive.
I will take a look at that nostalgic air kit. I would never imagine this vehicle needing 15 to 20 btu's, but it is a large area inside and all that glass too. I plan to build lexan or plexiglass sliding door type separator to divide the back section. This will make the air conditioned section...
I too am impressed with the starting power of the 24 volts. I am hoping to keep it. I also am looking into the possibility of adding a 120 volt 5000 BTU window air conditioning unit via an inverter. I think this may be easier than trying to move and change so many things under the hood to add...
