The boards are not the same, or may not be, the original MEP-002a board will burn out if used in a MEP-003a, but a MEP-003a board can be used in MEP-002a. It also appear that the 10KW 400 hz version of the board may be able to be used in a MEP-002a

I had a similar intermittent problem on my MEP-002a, ended up swapping out the AVR board since then it has been rock solid.

The external fuel fitting is an AN fitting but it will mate with commercial JIC fittings, off hand I think it is a -4 or -5 size, as I recall MEP-002 uses -5 and MEP-016b uses -4, but I would not bet on that.

Sounds like something in the injection pump, you might try flow timing it and see if it has the wrong timing button, or worse.

Why not also consider the MEP-016D and MEP-016E?

When you say screw valve thing on the pump head, are you referring to the knurled knob there? If so that is the injection pump stability control knob. As to the rest with voltages, it would help if you told us exactly what you have that you are trying to power
