After dinner I checked the bolt head on the intake side of the lift pump and found a regular bolt head...i.e. without any evidence of non-return valve internals, like there are in the bolt on the output side, which has an obvious plug in the head. The thing is, the parts manual gives the same...
Bleeding brakes: probably the first thing I do, once I get her running again.
So, I replaced the fuel line between strainer and lift pump, including the return line between engine block and Tee fitting. That last small section seemed pretty suspect, spinning fairly easily on its banjo's...
Quick question for the group, for those of you who have completely blown out your fuel system between tank and IP: How many pumps of the primer pump will it take to refill the lines, strainer, lift pump, etc from the tank, assuming I have a sealed system without any blockages? Or will the...
Well I was out there in the dark, and nothing glows, so I guess that's a positive. The strainer was clean, and a steady dribble of fuel flowed out as long as the cup was off.
I am pretty sure it was fuel from the tank as it was flowing too quickly to be the downstream parts draining out.
I...
I had to close up for the day. Will hopefully get to the strainer (not sieve, wrong word) tomorrow. I am wondering whether I will be able to get the fuel lines on/off those barbs, since I don't have the one-sided fitting, like most. The valve is stuck open.
Replaced this, because it was obvious, and the fuel filters, which didn't look all that bad. New washers in place, all bolts tight. Will not bleed, so I'm guessing that fuel is not even flowing freely to the primer pump. The seive will be my next check.
I lubed most of mine last weekend while replacing the starter. 80% of them are easily accessible with the doghouse removed, and the ones in front of the starter can be gotten to from below with a bit of a reach.
I know well that the direction won't make that much of a difference, it just bothers me that someone wasn't paying attention. Since my fuel quality is now in question, I'm tempted to get a clear bowl for the strainer.
So Flu Farm, did you ever chase down that fuel line air leak issue one of your trucks was having? Mine may be coming down with the same bug. I'm waiting for new fuel filters to be delivered before I start troubleshooting.
Did you get it figured out?? FWIW, I would go with what's in the manual. Assuming the paper one you are using contains all of the changes, it should be correct. I would think (hope?) that over the course of the 20 years these trucks were in service, a mistake that big in the manual would have...
