Hey, glad I could post something to stir someone Else's imagination on a cool future project too. I just kept digging through the google search results before I found that video and had never seen that modification before.
Yes, I have pressure and it's a new Governor.
I'm going to let someone else sort out the air dryer issue...as this was my last shot at trying to get the air dryer to work. I am more concerned with the ABS light coming on after installing the new PPV valve now.
So, I just got the PPV replaced today and the Air dryer still didn't sneeze after building up to 120PSI and setting there running for another 10 mins afterwards.
Also, now the ABS lights is on so I am afraid to take it out to see if the air dyer will cycle once I get out on the road.
I did...
Yep, the engine is all stock..Cummins 8.3 6cta. I'm surprised these parts that you mention are compliant with a Cummins 8.3, but that Garrett in that Powerstroke sounds easily as good as an old C turbo for sure.
That makes sense. It would probably sound something like this I'm assuming............https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1rL6tyWe0M
I've been informed that you could just what this guy did and put a c turbo from a deuce on............https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0ZrCMc6MUk
Very true about the Deuces unique sound for sure.
A buddy of mine that has a 5 ton with the same engine took his muffler out and ran a straight pipe. The engine really overwhelms the sound of the turbo still yet...I mean the turbo is louder than what it was, but wayyyy to much engine noise...
I only drive it once every few weeks. It does not have to be as loud as in the video, but I would like to be noticeably louder than it is.
I mean, I can't even hear it over my 1200 Watt sound system...LOLS
Just wondering if anyone here on the forum has removed the silencer ring or did some sort of modification to where there turbo sounds like this Cummins 5.9 in the video below....and is the stock air intake on these trucks large enough to just simply modify the turbo greatly improve turbo sound...
An OTR trucker mentioned this to me the other day and I didn't know if he really new what he was talking about, but after you and two other posters mentioning the PPV...I think it's time to change it out now.
Ok, so I have not drove the truck much in the past 6 months and actually installed a new air dryer after the old one froze up last March driving it back from auction.
Installed new air dryer and was puzzled because it would not sneeze after first starting the truck and it building to 120 PSI...
Ah, supposedly its about to go according a guy that does mobile heavy truck repairs in this area. It's been grinding more and more in the past few months and is really rattling/clanging now.
So, unfortunately I need a torque converter for my transmission now. Cant find any on the auction sites either.
Can anyone direct me to a place or someone that has these at a reasonable price?
