What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Fixed the passenger door latch. Exact problem that is in the sticky. Fishing the mechanism out of the door and putting it back in was the toughest part.

    M923A2 Doing 80 MPH!!

Sorry to hi-jack, but what are the long swooping metal poles that start from the left side of the grill. Some kind of antenna? Looks like every accessory and light possible is bolted on those things! AWESOME.

    PMCS Check Question: Fuel Filter

That all makes sense, thanks for the input.

    PMCS Check Question: Fuel Filter

Could I just do away with the larger filter and assembly? Be one less failure point (and maintenance item).

    PMCS Check Question: Fuel Filter

Now I'm confusing myself reading the TM. It seems to infer the 939A2 doesn't have the big filter under the fender, but clearly I do. Do you drain both filters regularly or just the smaller one on the side of engine?

    PMCS Check Question: Fuel Filter

I am confused on this one thing. Do you open the water drain valve on the bottom of the filter with the truck running or not? I have tried the big one with it running and nothing really came out. I tried it with the truck off and I could hear air bubbling up into the filter Again, only a...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Yeah, I've got a little Kubota B tractor with a loader, but it's not tall enough to use with the big trucks to load or off-load anything. I hate paying the delivery fee for crush run, but it's alot less hassle that way.

    M939 Inconsistent air pressure...

Sounds like the valve is sticking up inside your air dryer. The outlet where your finger was covering it. The valve up inside there can get cruddy and stick open causing air not to build up. When the governor hits about 130 PSI, it should dump there and give the loud "Psssssst". The valve...

Anyone in the Austin/Round Rock area that can come by sometime and.....

The official military training videos on the M939 (from 1991) trucks are on Youtube. They give a pretty good basic overview. Here's Part 1, there are 3 of them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gW7mdL9Bhs

    Fan not spinning

There is an air activated clutch on the fan. When the coolant gets to 190 degrees (I think there are 200 degree ones too) the Shutter Stat (mounted in the metal radiator hose on the upper left side of the radiator) should open and allow air pressure to the clutch engaging it. Failure points...

    M-920 1600 r20

Wish my CTIS was set at 55 PSI. Mine go to 70PSI at "Hwy". It's a pretty brutal ride with an empty truck. I do get the bucking bronco ride every now and then. Feels like flat spots that sync up to cause it. Other times it's as smooth as any other vehicle. I haven't tried rotating the...

    CTIS PCU Chattering Then Faults

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?137569-M939A2-CTIS-PCU-solenoid-replacement&highlight=solenoid+replaceent Here's a good thread on it. That's where I got mine. Unfortunately, due to my screwed up methodology I don't know if it was the solenoids, the PCU sensor, or the leaking...

    CTIS PCU Chattering Then Faults

Well I went ahead and replaced the solenoids with the new ones. Had the same results, straight to 5 light flash. Now for the really dumb thing I did. When I first took the PCU apart and cleaned it (weeks ago), I removed the 3 solenoids. I failed to note which one went where. So I looked in...

    Cummins 8.3 fan shutter stat

Sounds to me like the shutter stat is stuck in the open position. Mine was stuck about half way between open and closed and just vented the air out like yours is doing. It might be the actual element that is sticking, though. If you take the element off make sure you note how far it is screwed...

    CTIS PCU Chattering Then Faults

I actually have 3 new solenoids on my desk. The ones in the PCU all tested OK on continuity and resistance, though. I don't know if they could be bad even if those tests were OK?

    CTIS PCU Chattering Then Faults

Nope, new PCU sensor didn't fix it.
