Hello all. I have a 1986 M1009. The transfer case is leaking. I have done a search many times and have not found the same issue. It appears as though it is leaking through the yoke/u-joint, which would seem weird. I replaced the output shaft seal. The case is dry and the seal is dry. Tranny...
I am updating this post d/t I found what was causing the blown ignition fuse. I cleaned some ground points, took apart the downshift switch and cleaned it. I test drove the vehicle and the fuse blew again when accelerator pushed to floor. I got under the truck and followed the orange wire from...
I replaced the fuel hose underneath the intake by using a long 1/4 inch extension and a universal joint on the end. The air filer housing removed, and accessing the fuel hose clamp at the IP from the drivers side of the engine, going in between the intake manifold and the valve cover. Kind of...
Thank you all for the replies. I unhooked the gauge this morning from the tan/wht wire. But when I was driving home from work, I was going up a hill, and I pushed the accelerator pedal close to WO and the transmission "kicked" down for 1/2 second only. I got home and checked the ignition fuse...
Tinstar, thank you for the reply. What are the locations for the extra ignition taps? I will take your advice and start over. Where did you install your sending unit? Just curious. Thanks again.
Hello all. 1986 M1009. I searched quite a bit and found nothing specific to my problem. I installed an autometer water temp gauge. I tapped into the tan/white wire for ignition feed, right under the fuse panel. I ran a ground wire all the way to the location where I installed the sending unit...
My personal opinion is that if you got a military vehicle, it should remain visually stock. That's the cool factor to me.
I agree 100% for me, however, putting a lift kit on is OK too, just not for me.
I installed a new GDP-3A.1 glow plug controller board and uninstalled the momentary switch that the PO installed when the old glow plug controller board went bad. I ordered the new controller card on 9/8 in the morning and it arrived at my house today. It looks like a very quality product. I had...
M35A2-AZ. Thanks for the tips. Are the smaller holes on top of a support or cross member? If they are, is that so the welding material goes through the hole to the metal underneath? Thanks again.
Thanks everyone. I think getting a MIG welder and learning my self is the way to go. I am sure there are somewhat inexpensive MIG welders that will be good for occasional use. Yea! I get to buy more tools!
Hello. I want to start with a big THANK YOU to everyone on this site. This site has made owning an M1009 much easier. I have looked, maybe not enough, but have not found any info on the rust I have. I want to repair this so it will not get worse. I am assuming the antenna hole on the passenger...
Hello all. I finally got my fuel filter base installed and no leaks. Installed a new Trombetta glow plug relay and my M1009 starts like it should. I got the truck 2 months ago and I am going to change the 12v system back to 24v. I wanted to get the fuel system and glow plug issues solved first...
It drives great. I think it is still losing prime, I removed the FP switch and tapped the hole and put a screw in it. But after it sat a day in my driveway I had to bleed the filter again. It has been converted to 12v, I am going to switch it back to 24v.
Hello. The odometer states 47,*** miles, I am inclined to think it is 147,***. Based on these pics, what do you all think? Thank you for the replies. The rust behind the pass seat is, I think, from the antenna hole being left open.
Hello all. I just picked up my very own M1009 last Saturday. It is a 1986. The PO converted it to 12 volt, with a momentary switch for glow plugs, I was disappointed with that, I plan to convert it back to 24 volt. It would start very hard, or not start. I looked up the TM for diagnosing the...
