    MPG vs HP Compromise

When I get the same question, and they have an attitude or tone in their voice like I am responsible for climate change, I say "Pound for pound I get better fuel mileage than your (insert vehicle name)". That usually ends the conversation right there because they have to stop and think a...

New Forum member and just purchased a 1078a1

My list covers much of the basic stuff because I tend to forget stuff. I am sure it is not complete. You can add as you see fit. It took 2 of us 4 to 5 hours to complete this list. There were a couple of minor things we need to fix and we removed and stowed the tarp and bows. Some time was taken...

New Forum member and just purchased a 1078a1

My 1998 M1078 from GovPlanet was in exceptional condition and located 900 miles away. I took a chase vehicle and as many tools and fluids as would fit in the car and drove it home with no issues. Most of the trucks I see for auction I would not be comfortable driving home. I guess it comes down...

    Its finally here!

If you have a failure that injures you while sitting in the drivers seat then you have made quite a few mistakes before you began the pull. A remote is not the answer. Prevent the accident before it happens. If your equipment is in good condition and all of your components are within working...

    Its finally here!

There is a whole lot of science behind proper rigging gear and technique. There are whole books written on the subject. I have had a career in the rigging field. Most of the work I have done required unknown load weight so estimating loads, friction and safety factors were key to not having...

    Its finally here!

My truck is a 1998 M1078 winch truck and unlike most of the trucks that show up at auction it was in exceptionally good condition. The truck appeared to be largely unused at all. The truck had the folding emergency triangles still in the original packaging, the lug wrench, the air hose, a...

Considering a Roll Off rear body mechanism.

Does your truck already have the PTO installed? Or are you planning to install the hydraulics too? If you have the PTO already on your truck do you know the pressure and flow rate that it generates?

    Lmtv in New England?

Since you have not gotten any replies yet, you can come take a look at mine. I am in New England but I am a hell of a long ways from Camden, ME. If you find yourself in southern Vermont send me a message. My truck is stock M1078 A0 with SRW. There is a truck in northern Vermont I know of as well.

Anyone know the ground pressure for a FMTV?

While I am sure there is a dusty document somewhere that contains a nice chart of the data you are seeking, I am sorry to say I do not have it. But, if you do not require precise numbers it is easy to calculate some estimates. Ground Pressure(PSI) = Weight of vehicle/Tire surface contact area...

    LED Headlights for LMTV

I have a 1998 M1078 LMTV and I used Grote 7" LEDs (pn# 90941-5). They are fairly inexpensive at $119.00 each, seem to produce plenty of light and are easy to install. The Grote headlight includes a H4 adapter pigtail which I soldered onto the military wires. This allows for the headlights to be...

M1078A1 Self Recovery Winch stuck in Engaged

If you grab the drum with one hand and the disengage/engage lever in the other, while moving the lever from disengage to engage, rotate the drum with your hand a little. It helps the movement of the lever. It sounds like it was just a little bound up from sitting. My suggestion will help even...

Wife wants me to do the unthinkable due to the Florida DMV debacle!

I believe what the DMV told you is only partially true. If the vehicle is greater than 15 years old they do not issue titles unless you fill out the required additional form for the title. This will almost certainly require a VIN verification. The required form is found on the Vermont DMV...

Wife wants me to do the unthinkable due to the Florida DMV debacle!

I do not think Vermont is going to issue a title until a request for a replacement title is requested. It does not appear that has happened at this point. The old title should be surrendered. https://dmv.vermont.gov/sites/dmv/files/documents/VT-004-Replacement_Title.pdf This is the link to the...

Wife wants me to do the unthinkable due to the Florida DMV debacle!

A vehicle can have two names on a Title. A vehicle can never have two Titles at the same time.

Wife wants me to do the unthinkable due to the Florida DMV debacle!

    1) I am not a lawyer but the fake bill of sale would pose a problem. "THE UNDERSIGNED HEREBY applies for a replacement Certificate of Title and certifies that the information contained herein is true and correct. These declarations are made under penalties of 23 VSA §202, §203, §2082 & §3829. "...

I have not seen that before. Sounds like they are way behind. At least the plate is coming, but you still have to work on getting the Vehicle title in your name.

Wife wants me to do the unthinkable due to the Florida DMV debacle!

I do not know what research the DMV conducts to issue a replacement title. Vermont will issue a replacement title with a Bill of Sale and a VIN inspection is probably required. What you propose would not be legal and it would not work.

Wife wants me to do the unthinkable due to the Florida DMV debacle!

I believe an error was made. You should have received your license plate, registration and registration stickers all in a large, brown, windowed envelope. Call the DMV to politely ask what is going on. I do not believe they are shipping the plates to you separately. I have never had plates...

Wife wants me to do the unthinkable due to the Florida DMV debacle!

It appears the DMV took the path of least resistance. They registered your vehicle and you will receive the plates. If the vehicle is older than 15 years then Vermont DMV really does not care about the title BUT if you want a title you can get one by filling out a separate form. This probably...
