    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

Yea, that's pretty cryptic. You mention "airspace, looks clear, parachute drop zone...." hmmm... one thing I know is there's the SB Co Sheriff's Dept helicopter training facility at AV airport... ya' think maybe they'll be dropping the SWAT guys on us for training, or....??

    M1009 transmission th400

Roger that. Have you checked the TM's for the shift lever linkage adjustment? Improper adjustment on shift linkage can cause trans to go in between gears and not up-shift properly. This can also waste your trans in a fairly short time. Also, that wire on the side of trans goes to another device...

    M1009 transmission th400

Go under your truck and lay next to the trans ON THE DRIVER SIDE. Look for a wire that plugs into the side of the trans case. Disconnect that wire and test drive. Does it shift now?

    1008 speed and MPG

In my experience so far with my M1008; cruise speed 55 comfortably and mileage 10mpg best around town and 14mpg best on interstate. Stock 235/85-16's and stock everything else. IMHO; Probably the most cost effective mod--- I believe--- to make these 1008's into daily drivers is install a Gear...

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

Good planning! If you're coming from OC up the 15 then bingo on that Pilot station. But actually Carp, I believe its located at the 395 exit--- or is there another one I don't know about? Whatever, you can't miss it and know that fuel doesn't get any cheaper after that...8)

full tank only reads a quarter tank.

Not really black magic, I've redone truck fuel tanks couple times now and the sending device is simple; a sliding 12V scale that reads resistance--- that's it. When they become worn or corrode you just have to replace them. Unfortunately, that requires pulling the fuel tank:-|

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

AW DARN! Cancel whatever it is Met1! We needs ya' at this picnic! Wife says she sure appreciated your patient coaching on her limited clean-up skills--- 'cause I think she's tired of my self-defense mantra; IT DON'T MATTER WHETHER YOU HIT 'EM HONEY--- JUST AIM FOR THEIR B*LL$--- THEY WON'T...

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

I have a proposition for DB firewood stock; catch is--- it must be harvested. Got permits last April for 2 cords of fuelwood, as Forest Service calls it, and as yet haven't done the harvest. Location is Mountaintop Ranger District--- Big Bear/Arrowhead. Have truck, trailer, maps and load...

WHERE have all the M1008/M1028 gone?

By gosh it DOES seem like CUCV's are getting scarce... but I've thought that before when I was shopping last year. Then suddenly--- there's a whole raft of 'em up for auction! I say keep your ear to the ground and check the GL locations once a week. Meanwhile, good luck to ya'! P.S. Just...

    CUCV - air conditioner transplant?

Another thing I've used in the past, and it works really well, is this temporary window tint that's really dark, almost opaque and not very easy to see through; LINK Some might find this useful on a long road trip to prevent sunlight from heating up the cab as well as passengers. Just slap it...

    CUCV - air conditioner transplant?

Ok, Peel N Seal looks like a good option and lots of guys seem to like it. Only I'm not seeing any R-factor, you know, like what is its actual insulation rating. If for example someone lives in the desert and is trying to keep out very seasonallu high heat as opposed to some body in Alaska where...

full tank only reads a quarter tank.

Time to replace the in-tank sender I would think. They do become worn and resistance makes them read wrong.

    Newbie from downunder

Hey now--- welcome to the site! I have a brother-in-law in Sydney and s few more in-laws in Melbourne, planning a visit one of these days... by the way, curious--- how/where do you find old Dodge iron down-under?

    Cross country time!

Depending on which route you decide to take south toward San Diego, I am near I15 and I40 outside of Barstow. If you decide to go all the way south to I10 or I8, then I'm not more than an hour to an hour-and-a-half drive from either. PM me if you need contact info and best of luck.

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

Hey now! If the Good Lord is Willin' and the creek don't rise--- we're looking forward to attending. And just like for last Spring DB, to what degree we'll be able to participate is unknown at this time. It's a Catch22 situation; if I'm gainfully employed by then, our time in-camp will probably...

    CUCV - air conditioner transplant?

Great write-up shkira! Thanks! Lots of valuable details we ONLY learn the hard way are priceless when passed along. Plan to do an A/C work-up on my 1008 and would expect that its smaller cab-size will make a big diff in overall cooling efficiency. Using beacoup sound/thermal insulation helps...

My New WMO Setup for the CUCV

CUCV-II Road trip FL to CA 2,668 miles

Sounds good! But I strongly caution that you fill up WAY BEFORE you get into California because gas stations along the interstate will bend you ever here--- BIG TIME!2cents Good luck and Godspeed!
