This is the same reason why your rear tires will wear out much faster than the front; Detroit Locker!

Insuring a CUCV (protecting an Investment)

Thanks to all--- great info here! For me, I only carry liability and un-insured motorist on my 1008 because I don't drive like an idiot. (over 40 yrs driving - never been at fault - no moving violations) And I figure that whoever causes the accident is either going to pay or I sue them into...

    Buying a M1009

Not to discourage you, but if you read the different car/truck forums out there about the many problems and issues that come with buying ANY model vehicle that is 20-PLUS years old, then you will have some idea of what you'll face when buying an M1009. Good luck - [thumbzup]

    2 Girls & A Tank

How 'bout a few pictures of that generator? The Crossely I'm reffering to is the UK car/truck maker from WWI era, believe they also made govt vehicles in WWII as well. Is your generator made in Great Britain? If so, would no doubt be a collector.[thumbzup]

    2 Girls & A Tank

Like the tank; like the girls! The little wife always likes to wear her Eva Longoria sleeve-less camo top whenever we go riding in CUCV... (now I just need to get her a pair of those knee-high black boots!) BTW: curious--- can you identify the old fliver parked behing you in the photos? WWI...

Finally got to work on the 1008

Not a bad weekend at all! Like your winch setup and the price was right. But would like to maybe see the how/where details on that ARB compressor mounting. Your air tank looks good too. Are you planning on a future ARB air-locker?[thumbzup]

    M1009 Needs new radiator

    1. Don't know about eating of head gaskets as a specific Dexcool problem, can't imagine why it would destroy only head gasket maeterial. After all, there are much more easily corroded parts like rubber hoses, et., al., that are not affected by Dexcool. 2. I believe that Dexcool is Dexcool is...

    M1009 Needs new radiator

Will is right; Dexcool doesn't mix well with anything. Before changing over to it, your cooling system needs to be flushed & cleaned like factory new--- and I'm not even sure THAT will prevent problems. Otherwise Dexcool turns itself into mud. Not trying to scare you unnecessarily, but I'll tell...

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

Yes--- of course! What was I thinking... (visions of Clint Eastwood riding his horse going around lighting sticks of dynamite, with his cigaro, and blowing up bad guys and stuff...)

    M1009 Needs new radiator

Hey, I'm with ya' on that "don't like... breakdowns..." My civi GMC C3500 w/BB radiator was re-cored for around $400 and I did the R&R myself, plus new GM water punp, plus new Hi-Miler Goodyear hoses and belts and AC-Delco fan thermostat---- kah-$HING! Bet I was well into $800 total...

    M1009 Needs new radiator

Best bet=local radiator shop. Get reccomendations from guys you know in the area for who does good work. Anything you buy online is questionable (unless it cost an arm & a leg) and what are you going to do if after a few weeks your "brand new" radiator springs a leak? Pull it and ship it back to...

    DirtBag Fall 2011 ???

Thanks for the offer Duffman, but I only just quite smoking cigarettes about a year ago... however, if by chance any particular cigar box were to be holding approximately four hundred and twenty cigars, why then I might be tempted...;-)

    Too much power steering

The question I have is what lurks inside your front hubs, suspension, et., al.,... 1. Condition of your tie-rods? 2. Condition of ball joints? 3. Wheel bearing adjustment? 4. What about the worm-gear-shaft adjustment on the steering box itself? High mileage steering box maybe? 5...

    Too much power steering

Agreed--- this problem I've never encountered and never heard of before. Are you seeing leaks from the PS box/pump? My 1008 does something unusual; if I turn the steering wheel from lock to lock while vehicle is rolling, when I apply the brakes the pedal goes WAY LOW before coming back up to...

    Fusible Links - 101

Thanks for the great link--- in fact that dealer has tons of stuff I can use to fix my hillbilly-hacked GMC cviv. That truck is the C3500 fleet-type model and has A LOT of the same electricals as M1008. Looking in the old GM official manuals wasn't always a help because lots of stuff in the...

    MCAS - Miramar Air Show

Miramar is an awesome show. Hoping maybe THIS YEAR we can attend. Don't believe my MV will be up-to-snuff for display but will sure look you guys up if we go. Last time I was there was sometime last millennium when my Dad lived in San Diego. He was/is a total Navy man and ex-carrier jock who...

    Pinzguaers in Big Bear!

Hey now! Great weekend--- took a little ride through Hundyland (Lucerne) Saturday on our way up HWY 18 for a quick trip to Big Bear. Went early to scout some wood-cutting areas but the main attraction was a concert at the Big Bear Discovery Center--- Jim Curry- John Denver Tribute--- awesome...
