Why do you want to take out the box? Just leave it in there, keep it as factory as possible. If you want, install a manual start system by getting another glow plug harness. That way, if you decide you want to pony up another $600 or so for another box, you can just plug it in.

I didn't bother hiding the button. The factory control box is much more competent at burning out the plugs than a random button pusher in my mind. Have to wonder how they ever designed something like that. It's a military vehicle, common sense dictates you design a failsafe into it. Mine failed...

Just did it. Deuce & a half momentary switch, 24v relay, extra set of factory glow plug cables (didn't want to cut into the existing ones), wiring and ring terminals. Works like a charm. Will post thread with pics, part numbers and walk through soon.

That hose was a pain to get off! The part number I listed above gave a generic hose that was a couple inches too long, had to trim. My two attachment points were the same size, perhaps they just grabbed what was available for yours?

Thanks for the feedback. The former owner had switched out the plugs just prior to my purchase. He said they were swollen and difficult to pull. I had tested a few of the glow plugs in the block and they measured at 1 ohm, which looks to be good. My wait light is staying on for 9 seconds, so...
