    Functions of the eess box?

Why do you want to take out the box? Just leave it in there, keep it as factory as possible. If you want, install a manual start system by getting another glow plug harness. That way, if you decide you want to pony up another $600 or so for another box, you can just plug it in.

    Functions of the eess box?

I didn't bother hiding the button. The factory control box is much more competent at burning out the plugs than a random button pusher in my mind. Have to wonder how they ever designed something like that. It's a military vehicle, common sense dictates you design a failsafe into it. Mine failed...

    Functions of the eess box?

Just did it. Deuce & a half momentary switch, 24v relay, extra set of factory glow plug cables (didn't want to cut into the existing ones), wiring and ring terminals. Works like a charm. Will post thread with pics, part numbers and walk through soon.

    Glow plug changing-tdc per cylinder?

https://real4wd.com/store/Glow-Plug-Removal-Tool Bought that one from Kascar, as the one mentioned 2 posts above was no longer available. Changed mine the other day, but didn't need it as they weren't swollen, just dead. Additionally, built and installed my new manual glow plug setup. Works...

    Thermostat gasket

That hose was a pain to get off! The part number I listed above gave a generic hose that was a couple inches too long, had to trim. My two attachment points were the same size, perhaps they just grabbed what was available for yours?

    Thermostat gasket

Go with Permatex gasket maker on both sides, let it set for a little bit and put them together. Problem solved. The thermostat gasket failed me too, getting the old one off was painful also. I just replaced every cooling system hose in my 998. When I get home I'll get you a parts list if you...

    1988 M998 Cold Start Problem

I had replaced the temp switch. The main problem I was having is 24v going to plugs full time (when engine is not running). Bad box. Reporting back, the block heater works great! Keep in mind it was 50 degrees this morning so not cold. Had the heater on 2 hours in advance with a timer, 1000w so...

    1988 M998 Cold Start Problem

Yeah, I remember seeing it on Ebay for like $600. Everybody says it's the best. It's the KDS S3 right? So many parts and names for the same thing, difficult to keep track.

    1988 M998 Cold Start Problem

Tony, ponied up on the big box huh? How much? Tried the block heater with the plugs not working last night, fired up not too bad. Going to get a timer and run it 3 hours ahead for early wake up tomorrow an see how she does. Will report back. As far as boxes go, I think I will just opt out...

    1988 M998 Cold Start Problem

Had a second today after doing coolant flush, replacing all hoses, thermostat & installing block heater. Tested glow plug lead (only 1) and found that it's getting 24v when key is in the on position constantly, regardless if coolant is cold or hot and stays 24v after the light goes out. The...

    1988 M998 Cold Start Problem

Tonydamato, Sounds like it could be a grounding issue to your starter.

    1988 M998 Cold Start Problem

Thanks for the feedback. The former owner had switched out the plugs just prior to my purchase. He said they were swollen and difficult to pull. I had tested a few of the glow plugs in the block and they measured at 1 ohm, which looks to be good. My wait light is staying on for 9 seconds, so...

After market seats or alternate seats for HMMWV / m998 ?

Tangdiver, had more questions but didn't want to hijack this good seat thread. Moved insulation discussion here : https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?174099-Humvee-Sound-Heat-Insulation&p=2081782#post2081782

    Humvee Sound Heat Insulation

Just wanted to continue a conversation about insulating the Humvee interior without continuing to hijack a seat thread. From Tangdiver: http://shop.800nonoise.com/Floormats-10-Roll-F0001.htm My question is, for the price $200+, how far does this roll get you? Just center tunnel, firewall too...

    1988 M998 Cold Start Problem

I know this is the most posted about problem, but I'll give this a go anyway to see if someone sees something I don't. I've been combing through the forums and the service manual. Cold start issue only in the morning, no other time. New glow plugs were installed, as was a grounding harness...

After market seats or alternate seats for HMMWV / m998 ?

Tangdiver: That would be great if you had pics. I was thinking of some type of rubber mat that would blend in. Not sure if there is already a thread on that.

After market seats or alternate seats for HMMWV / m998 ?

Yeah, me too. I guess you shined up your factory insulation, looks new. I updated links to my post before, it looks like he has a different style than in your pictures that come with sliders, so must be the 2016's. Yours are the front seats or the easy folder middle seats?

After market seats or alternate seats for HMMWV / m998 ?

Joelaw, Just wanted to thank you for posting about the Chrysler Pacifica seats. So would you suggest going with the 2016 rather than the 2017 seats? Here's the style he has right now, not sure which it is though: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CVfnEP270ys0QjoEzBQV2ELRqZ1_vl4K/view?usp=sharing...
