    Location of Engine Coolant Drain?

I was using a screwdriver and coming up from underneath... hitting not the edge-edge, but the edge of the center indentation, and the screwdriver went right through it without the plug budging. I'll try something longer so I can get a better hammer swing at it.

    Location of Engine Coolant Drain?

Thanks Wayne, will try this tonite. Hoping for another nice afternoon. Hadda wake up at 5 and take the bus/subway 1.5 hrs to work today (groan). It's a 20 min trip in the M1009.

    Location of Engine Coolant Drain?

OK, I just got around to finishing this project (since it's starting to get cold). Radiator flushed, winter thermostat installed, but I've run into some problems with the freeze plug. I was hammering away at it with a screwdriver, punched a hole in it, drained all the remaining coolanty...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Changed the oil tonite! This is the first thing I've had to do in months and months. For those of you struggling with a myriad of crazy strange problems, there is hope! One day, "the next thing to fix" won't show it's ugly face and, like me, you'll drive your CUCV for 6 months without a...

How accurate is your fuel gauge?

When I was looking at mine, I found a ground point on the frame rail on the drivers side, sort of up in the wheel well. You'll see it. If there are others, please let me know too, as this may "fix" mine.

M1009 startup then "stall out" Hard 2nd start then OK

Having this same issue even after spin-on filter install Hi all, I installed the Wix 24770 filter base and spin-on filter, changed rubber hoses to and from filter, and the return line on the IP. I have an '86 M1009, which appears to have the updated check valve (no glass ball). I'm...

What were the squirrels stashing under your intake manifold?

I used to have a 1957 MGA (british sportscar). I bought it in high school when I had no bills and a bunch of lawnmowing / grocery clerk $ to my name. During college I was pretty broke and stored it in this professor-friend's 3-walled "barn"... anyway, ran out of money pretty quick and had to...

What were the squirrels stashing under your intake manifold?

When replacing the rubber hose to my Injection Pump, I found: - A walnut - A "Pig Pad" (Thick Absorbent sheet, like a paper towel but 10X as thick) - 2 pennies - a 6-inch long flathead screwdriver tip - A thoroughly knawed chicken leg bone Just curious what others have found. Thought this...

    Rough idle fix

Successful spin-on filter installation! I took some videos, so once I get it edited a bit I'll post that to youtube and here as well. Thanks chicagodiesel for detailing this setup. It's working wonderfully already for me. A couple hints I picked up along the way. Make sure, if you use...

How to get my 6.2 to run more smoothly?

The bb's in dryer sound turned out to be something related to the 4WD. I had been in 4-Hi , hubs unlocked, without realizing it. Once I disengaged the front wheels, the bb's in dryer sound stopped. I've had a lot of problems with my PS pump bracket... it's been welded, and I always check...

How accurate is your fuel gauge?

Mine used to read about 1/4 tank over what it should have been. Then something happened (??) and now it reads a half tank past full (1.5 tanks) no matter how much is in there... I cleaned the ground, but it didn't help... haven't had time to dig further into it, but I will when I install...

Big Push of CUCV's now very few ...

:-( Maybe someday it'll be considered obsolete? They've been around for quite a while. I mean, 20-30 years from now or something, who knows?

Big Push of CUCV's now very few ...

So after the CUCV's are gone... what's next? I heard there weren't too many CUCV-II's... so when will they start unloading the humvees? I love my M1009 to death, but if I saw a humvee for sale for only a couple grand I'd be willing to expand my personal fleet...

    Rough idle fix

FYI, after a wasted trip to Autozone and OReilly's, looking for a Wix 24770 filter, I have determined thanks to internet research that this type of filter does not exist. Anyone planning to use this filter base, check this post I found on google. This user kindly made a spreadsheet of the...

    Rough idle fix

Blue2actual... do you have pics of where/how you mounted your electric fuel pump? I am planning to install one tomorrow. I've seen some others install it closer to the tank as well.

How to get my 6.2 to run more smoothly?

Reviving this old thread because I've done some work and gotten some results! The loose injector: Tightened it. Nothing changed. Cleaned fuel return "check valve". Mine, being an '86, doesn't seem to have the "glass ball" type that others have talked about. I have some pictures I'll...

    Cooling of CUCV during summer.

hey, great idea! best part is it would keep the cabin from turning into an oven while parked

    Cooling of CUCV during summer.

Maybe you already know this, but those knobs near the parking brake release and in the same spot on the passenger side will open vents that bring fresh air from the wheel wells. Only helps when you're moving, but I wonder if some kind of fan could be installed that'd force air through?

    Steering Pump Bracket Source

This happened on mine and I had a shop weld it back together (top tab). The weld bead interferes with the socket's clearance, so it's a real PITA to get the thing down tight. Every couple months it backs off a bit and I go looking for that horrible rattling sound... only to find the same...
