    Cucv extreme rattle noise

Well, I fixed it! Here's what turned out to be the problem... 1) My fan shroud was loose on the lower, passenger-side corner. Tightened that up which got rid of a quieter rattle that was masked by the loud rattle. 2) That f***ing PS pump bracket... the corner that broke a while ago I had...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

I'd better change it soon... yeah... my odometer doesn't work quite right, so I've sort of lost track. Still not sure what that noise is... it's driving me crazy. I'll have some time to look at it tonite, and was thinking of advancing the injection pump a little bit, as I've heard most...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

Thanks for the advice! I checked that last bolt on the PS Pump bracket (bracket to PS pump)... the one that's hidden away and can only be seen from the bottom. That's tight. I'll try looking for the ones you all suggested tomorrow. I did have an opportunity to do some more checking (once...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

Actually... looking in the TM -20 (section 8-15), it looks like there is one more bolt for me to check... one of the ones that holds the bracket onto the pump itself. I'll report back tomorrow...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

Way ahead of you... the P(O)S Pump Bracket broke in that exact place about a week after I bought the truck last summer, and I had to have it welded. Since then, some bracket, bolt, or another has come loose a few times in that region of the vehicle, leading to a noise something like this. So...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

Well, thanks to the advice of chicagodiesel (who happens to be my neighbor and also a M1009 owner), I tried listening with a stethoscope and then removing the accessory belts to try to isolate the noise. The stethoscope was really cool (first time I've used it), and seemed to point to the...

    Cucv extreme rattle noise

richter1978: I've got the exact same thing happening. I checked all my alternator/power steering/etc brackets, my starter and the vicinity, and the flex plate, and all are OK. It looks like nobody replied to your message, but it was a few months ago, so did you ever find out what happened...

    Fuel Filter Changeout

Thanks for the video, pics, and descriptions. I had bought a new fuel filter cartridge a couple months ago... pulled it off and freaked out as fuel started pouring everywhere!!! Shoved it back on and forgot about it (well not really... just felt mentally, minorly bothered that it needed to...

insulating and making a cucv a bit quieter

bought two rolls of Quick Roof at Home Depot today. Looking forward to a quieter ride tomorrow. I also found rolls of pink foam, quite flexible and very cheap. It was like 8" x 30' or something... I don't remember exactly... and about 3/8" thick. for ~$7. I'm thinking that I could buy...

What is happening with T-Case in 4Hi and hubs NOT locked?

    OK, that makes sense. Thanks!

What is happening with T-Case in 4Hi and hubs NOT locked?

The TM says that for 4wd to be engaged, T-Case has to be in one of the "4" settings (obviously) and the hubs should be locked. My question is... what if the hubs aren't locked? Do the front wheels still get driven, but the diff is open? Or is power being applied to the front diff, but it...

    Hissing sound, trans related?

@ idM1028: I have an automotive stethoscope. It was on sale at Harbor Freight Tools for like $1.98 or something.

    Hissing sound, trans related?

Barrman: Well, my shifting was never broken. It still shifts the same as it always has... just makes this hissing sound right before a shift (about 50% of the time). It could be that I have just not located the source of the problem. About this resonator / baffle on the air filter inlet...

    Getting jumped from a CUCV

While we're on the topic, jumping a CUCV would involve... two (12V) vehicles, one on each battery? A vehicle and a jumper pack, one on each battery? I suppose a 24V vehicle could be used jumped from front batt and the rear batt? Or use the NATO slave plug?

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I replaced my transmission vacuum lines. Wow, were they old, cracked, and brittle! Felt like they were made out of charcoal or something... they came off, crunched, and left my hands covered in black dust when I pulled them off. Oddly enough, my trans shifted just fine both before and...
