    Strange tinging sound at 30mph+

Anyway... since the noise is vehicle-speed dependent it sort of worries me.

    Strange tinging sound at 30mph+

My dad had a 1995 Volvo 850 that he kept immaculately clean and always dealer serviced, etc. It got a round pebble stuck in the bumper surround, such that when he braked, turned, or accelerated in a certain way he heard a rattle that basically only *he* could hear. Someone unfamiliar with the...

    Strange tinging sound at 30mph+

Hi everyone, I've noticed a strange "tinging" sound when driving. Seems to be related to vehicle speed... only hear this noise when traveling 30mph or more. I hear it best in 3rd gear, but I'm not sure if I *would* hear it in 2nd gear... because when going 30+ in 2nd the engine noise drowns...

Do M1009 Rear Wheel Bearings get lubricated by GO from the Diff?

Just a clarification question. In the TM there is a lot of info about other CUCV's with the note "all except M1009". There are a couple threads on how to replace the rear wheel bearings on the M1009 on SS, but I'm going to grease up the fronts and I want to make sure that the rears are taken...

    Engine oil in CDR valve?

I too removed my CDR valve to clean it today and found a shotglass full of oil in it (distributed evenly among the hoses and CDR itself. My CDR looks pretty new (definitely not 25 years old, maybe 5 years at most). All the CDR-related tubes were well sealed. So, I was about to post this exact...

    Cucv Wiki

The TM lubrication order shows 5 quarts as the Transfer Case fill capacity and lists Dexron III as the proper fluid. This caused me quite a bit of confusion as I only got about 2.3 quarts into mine (an NP205). Here is the thread. Transfer Case transmission fluid level issue It seems to be...

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

Hmm.. maybe I'll put some GO in it then. Do I have to flush it out or can I just drain and refill with GO?

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

OK, I'll have a look on the other sides for the helpful ID tag tomorrow

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

From what I hear, the 205 is the better one... but keep trying! maybe somebody will fall for that! ;)

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

the 205 doesn't take Dexron? or is this the one you have to put additive in? (as you reply, I am re-reading the TM)

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

I used an adjustable wrench. I did not have a crescent in the correct size for those square bolts. from what I recall it was approximately 13-14mm

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

Here are the pics. I marked up one of them. It does look like cast iron (there's rust, anyway) and there is some ID info on a big round plate that may be aluminum. I also attached a pic of the drivers side of the T-case. Rain down your wisdom! Thanks!

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

OK, I ended up running outside just now and snapping a couple pics. Let me draw some arrows and labels on them and I'll post in a few minutes. nopics

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

sorry ODdave, I honestly don't remember seeing an ID tag on the back where the plugs were. Again, I will update tomorrow when it's light out and I can refresh my memory.

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

I'll take some pics and post them tomorrow morning when it's light out. I'm pretty handy with Photoshop, so I'll have little arrows and labels on everything for maximum clarity :)

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

Also, I realize I'm a newbie here... but should the powers-that-be at SteelSoldiers maybe update the CUCV Wiki / FAQ to let people know that the 5 qt fill for the T-case is incorrect? I'm seeing a few people respond to say that neither NP205 or NP208 holds that much (or are we all using the...

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

Hmm. Thanks! I will re-investigate tomorrow. I wonder what the h*** that square plug is doing there looking so much like it's a fill plug?

Transfer Case / Transmission Fluid Level Issue

Again, I am going from memory here and will confirm tomorrow when it's light out, but I believe it was aluminum (I don't know which T-case is made from which material, but I'm guessing you do??) :)
