Big Push of CUCV's now very few ...

Dang, how old is that? I've never even seen a M151 or Gamma Goat. HMMWV's can be given to other governmental agencies or organizations that work for/with the US government on government business (my work vehicle is a M1037 HMMWV) but they can not be resold. When they are done with the vehicle...

Big Push of CUCV's now very few ...

Wrong. Has nothing to do with crash standards or anything like that. If that made a HMMWV ineligible it'd also make most cars older than the 90's ineligible. They're considered a combat vehicle. Even the cargos and ambulances. Just like you'll never be able to buy a LAV-25, M1 Abrams...

Big Push of CUCV's now very few ...

HMMWV's can't be sold to the public. Nearly two decades ago the USMC TRADED some to a contractor and that's how the few genuine military M998's out there in civilian hands entered the market. The .gov shortly there-after changed the loop hole and since then nada, no, none, zilch, etc. They're...

Big Push of CUCV's now very few ...

You don't want to buy a CUCV from any unit based in Michigan. Infamous for being rust buckets. I thought the military didn't buy many CUCV II's. A member on here bought a non-working one several years ago and everyone spoke about it like it was a rare prototype. I know I never saw any in...

Big Push of CUCV's now very few ...

I'd like to see proof of it. When I got mine in 2006 the surplus place I bought it from was complaining that they were drying up due to the military keeping every half way decent one they had and only getting rid of the FUBAR ones. It only got worse since then. The stuff that's still in...

Pic thread? Looking for m1008's with minimal lift.

If you can find them there are now Goodyear MT/R's of the first 2000's tread style and BFG BAJA TA in a mud like tread for HMMWV's. THey're the new tires on HMMWV's and are replacing all the older bias plies and radials. Both are 37x12.5R16.5. For various reasons some have been released to...

Pic thread? Looking for m1008's with minimal lift.

You can bend the edge over, tack on a new edge, reinforce it, even seen guys weld rod onto the edge. I just left it in place with no flapping. It's sheet metal, not paper. I just repainted mine and called it good. Didn't drive it in road salt so it held up fine.

    K5 front D/S vs M1009 front D/S

Whatever you say bud. Guess I don't know anything. Have a good one.

    Ford CUCV

Waste of time unless you do a 8 lug 3/4 ton axle swap or find a Dana 44 with better gears than your current 10 bolt front. The Dana 44 and the GM 28 spline 10 bolt are about the same in strength. Where one has weakness the other has strengths in other places. D44 has 30 spline axles but neck...

    K5 front D/S vs M1009 front D/S

ALL the suspension, drivetrain, powertrain, etc parts were standard GM K5 parts, save the 3/4 ton TH400/NP208 setup. THat was straight out of a 3/4 ton truck instead of the 700R4 a 1/2 ton would have gotten. GM kept costs down by using everything they could on the K5's that was OEM original...

    K5 front D/S vs M1009 front D/S

The drivetrain, suspension, and frame/body on the M1009 is all just GM parts bin stuff. Nothing is special about it. The suspension is just the heaviest rated stuff GM offered for a K5 of that era, the axles are box stock standard 28 spline 8.5" 10 bolts with a Gov Lock in the rear and an open...

    $800 or so.

NOS USMC M1028 from Norway Storage

You can get up to a 34-35" tall but narrow tire on that without having to trim the fenders. Definitely make it better on and offroad and improve your clearances.

    Rears ?

Still requires either custom shafts, new parts, or adapting various pieces together. Go over to ColoradoK5 and look for a guy named Chevy305's build thread. He pretty much says he wasted his money and time converting his 80's 8 lug 14SF to 6 lug due to all the problems he had. At any rate...

    Rears ?

Yep, lots o' mystery with GM. The 6 lug 2wd 14SF's were also narrower than the 4wd versions.

    Rears ?

Doesn't work that way. 88-98 body style 6 lug axleshafts (while not common to begin with) aren't the same length as 80-87 body style 14SF 8 lug shafts. They don't swap right over. Guy on CK5 tried to do that and ended up spending more than just finding a 6 lug 14SF and moving the perches and...
