    Brake problem

It is located on the front end of the air pack. Thanks for the explanation.

    Brake problem

It looks like the air pack is leaking brake fluid through the damaged switch (still installed at this point). I tried to unplug the electrical connector, but the whole switch body broke off inside the connector, as it was partially melted from heat. If there is brake fluid leaking from the...

    help removing lugnuts

You should never use lubricant on the lug nut threads. The reason is, this greatly reduces the friction in threads and the lug nuts can be then overtightened and the studs can break. About 90% of the applied torque goes toward overcoming the friction in the threads (dry) and that between the...

    Brake problem

Can you explain the switch upgrade? The present switch is an air pressure actuated switch with two electrical leads. I think the switch had an electric short in it and burned, causing an air leak, enough to cause a soft brake pedal for a moment. What does the "upgraded" switch look like?

    Brake problem

I got under the truck, found the brake light switch on the air pack, it sure enough failed, there is burned smell in that area. I found a new switch on eBay, hopefully that is all it was. Since it is a pressure switch, if it fails internally, it will cause an air leak from the air pack.

    Brake problem

I found that the brake light switch is located on the air pack itself. It looks like it is a pressure switch. Is it possible that it failed and caused the air leak I heard? I hope that is all it was. Where can I find a new stop light switch?

    Brake problem

I have had no problems with brakes on my M109 for many years until today. I drove the truck around my yard, when suddenly two things happened: 1. The pedal started sinking to the floor and when I pumped it, it became firmer again, but I heard hissing noise from under the truck which sounds...

Oil Filter Gaskets? NAPA Doesn't Show PN.

Can you get the small gaskets that fit under the head of the canister holddown bolt? Nobody seems to have those gaskets. They look like fiber washers.

High engine cranking speed with new batteries

I recently installed a pair of new 6TL batteries from NAPA in my truck and the cranking speed is really fast now, almost too fast. Is this normal? It almost seems like the motor lost half of its compression all of a sudden. It feels like I am cranking the engine with the injectors out or...

    transfer case question

It all happened because of a small pesky bird that somehow got inside the locked cab of my truck (with all windows closed and a hardtop). I had a towel on the passenger seat and the bird kept pecking at the threads until it picked it almost clean. Then it took the bits and built a nest from...

    Deuce Battery Box Mods

Why not use the original battery hold down frame? It seems that it would fit as these group 27 batteries are the same width as the 6TLs. The way the batteries are placed in the box allows use of the original battery link.

Changing oil in deuce for first time

I mixng used motor oil with diesel fuel really a good idea? If yes, then how much per tankfull of diesel is permissible?

Changing oil in deuce for first time

They come only with the bottom gasket, not the top small one that fits under the head of the bolt. I have not been able to find that little one anywhere. Any ideas?

    Mods to the battery box

I am fed up with lousy quality 6TL batteries I have been using for years, so I want to try a pair of automotive batteries (group 24 and 24F?). They cost half as much as 6TLs and should fit into the stock battery box just fine with some spacers in between. Should I place a piece of plywood on...

    step ladder for m109a2

I have a proper fitting ladder for my M109. I also have another ladder, brand new, which is slightly wider I think than the original M109 ladder, and it needs relocation of one bracket on the van body. Other than that it is even better , as it is lighter than the original ladder, which is...

    M936 wrecker ownership

Just curious, what did they want to haul it per loaded mile? I bet it was at least $ 3/mile. The M936 I was interested in is 900 miles away. It would take 2 days and $ 1,200 in fuel cost alone to drive it home.

    M936 wrecker ownership

I often get an urge to buy things I do not need and often buy them. Especially if the price is right.:D

    M936 wrecker ownership

"On my 500 mile recovery trip I averaged 3mpg. And hit 55mph once going down hill." Wow, that sucks. That's more than $ 1/mile in fuel costs. Was that an M936 with the 250 Cummins?

    M936 wrecker ownership

Thanks wreckerman, that's what I was looking for. You have to ask these questions before jumping in and buying one of these things. A neat toy for sure, but not very practical to own unless you use it only on a large farm or ranch primarily as a crane. I am surprised about the 250 Cummins...

    M936 wrecker ownership

Do you need a CDL (commercial driver's license) to drive this vehicle on public roads? I know they have air brake system. How much is insurance coverage for these and is it easy to get? These are heavy vehicles, with curb weight of about 36,000 lbs, so the fuel economy must be bad. Just how...
