    Full HMMWV restoration reccomendation

Hello and thanks for the help. I have a 2 man 998 that I want restored. I have a slant back that I bought fairly restored, and brought it up quite a bit to original standards. I travel for work and spend enough time away from family that when I am home don't want to be a stranger working out in...

    Transmission issue, help!

Yeah, just wanted to mention it doesn't seem to be slipping at all now in any gear. That issue hit immediately, not over time. I was out for a weekly short drive to exercise it and all of a sudden it started slipping. Luckily I made it one block to my father in law's house. It went from feeling...

    Transmission issue, help!

I was just happy to get the thing running again since I am just finishing up a resto on my nicer one shown here. I plan on a 480 trans swap and frame off resto on the one with tranny issues but I need to be able to move it around so hence I am super happy with the quick fix.

    Transmission issue, help!

Just wanted to thank all who answered. I finally got the time to drop the pan, replaced filter and o-ring. The tranny pan fluid was glistening with metal sparkles, a little smattering of tiny metal fragments it the pan too. I added 7 quarts DEX3 and fired it up..... worked good as new again! I...

    Transmission issue, help!

It's full when running, if anything slightly overfull. Nice pinkish red color.... My brother in law the mechanic says he will test the pressures says it looks like some type of "apply" issue. He has never worked on a HMMWV but says the th400 is simple and easy. My next plan is to download the TM...

    Transmission issue, help!

I searched the forum, got some good reading in but have a strange symptom with the trans and truck is disabled. I have the old school 3 speed 3L80.I will do some troubleshooting but maybe someone can narrow down my search. I was driving the truck and it started slowing while the rpm's...

    Parking brake install

So I am wondering if the replacement of a new parking brake is an easy bolt off and on proposition or is it a pita? I have the old style and it is a little beat without the safety release button. I would like to slap a new one in, but I already have plenty of projects on this thing that will...

    Hmmwv Coupla advice

Thank you, sir.... I might very well buy that one. I already have a NOS offset one for the tow but want the other. I live 30 minutes from there in fact. One thing I noticed is that it is now $199 though, it must have inflated recently!

    Hmmwv Coupla advice

Man, that is exactly the kind of advice I am looking for! I have to get the turret installed then start dragging and assembling the coupla to see if it will mount. It’s heavy but in pieces. I thought the turret hatch would be a problem but maybe at least the coupla will mount to the old style...

    Hmmwv Coupla advice

I want to mount a coupla to the turret I still need to install. I think I have most of the parts, but will see as I go. I downloaded all the TM's I can find to get the turret installed, but not sure how the coupla mounts to the turret. I have the older style hatch with the two appendages...

Help with Fording exhaust/ sponson louver clearance.

Thanks guys! yeah, looks like I cant push it far enough back to have it aft of pipe. I have the pipe in a box in attic, but I suppose I will dig it out and measure to be sure. Action, by your measurements it looks like it might work, but I see what you are saying about the screen rounding out...

Help with Fording exhaust/ sponson louver clearance.

I have a deep water fording kit and want to install vent louvers on my left slant back sponson. I wont get to the exhaust for a bit, but it looks like I might have to mount the louvers far enough forward that they may run underneath the pipe. The louvers stick out a bit less than an inch from...

Help wanted in SE Pennsylvania (Montgomery County)

Gotcha, edited location. I have had a few 5 tons in AZ, had to get rid of them due to space at new house... bought the HMMWV's because smaller. Everything I want to do to the slant will be bone stock. I suppose somewhere in between. I'm not looking for a museum resto, but everything I put on...
