has anyone bult a deuce hemtt yet?

I agree that the 5 ton platform would be the ideal candidate...I also agree that it would cost a butt load of money for two donor trucks...unless they were already partially parted out......you just need the frames, one steering axle and one engine and tranny. Since 5 tons dont get parted out...

    Trailer Decking

Not me....all the military trailers I have now or have owned were metal. Most of the big trailers the Army had (that I pulled) had a wood or wood/metal combination deck. This included the road trailers that were pullled by transportation units. I have seen some big lowboys on GL that had all...

    M915 airtank

NDT, It is the tank next to the air dryer.....it hangs lower than the others. Once I get it home I can get measurments and call a couple of big truck scrap yards. I guess the issue will be if the donor tank has all the necessary holes that the 915 tank does.

    multi fuel smoke out

If you have a non-turbo truck it will smoke a lot more with alt. fuels. Even a turbo will smoke under the right conditions. If you lug the engine you will put out more smoke....keep it wound up until you get to good operating temp.

    M915 airtank

Last week I went to Redstone to check out the M915 I scored. It is intact and in decent physical condition. The most obvious problem is that one of the air tanks had been removed and was inside the cab. Closer examination revealed that the tank was riddled with pinholes. Does any have...

has anyone bult a deuce hemtt yet?

A few of us have kicked the idea around. My thought was to use the walking beam setup from the rear to mount steering axles on. Basically welding two rear halves together to make one unit. There are a butt load of HEMMT cabs on the market now so finding one should be easy. The big issue...

    XM818 w/M118A1

I bought a trailer from Recovery 4x4 that I intend on making a lowboy from. It is the one that is under the expando vans. A SS member posted one that he made and it looked professional. Finding someone that wants to set the van up without the trailer might be an issue.

    Montgomery Alabama pickup?

If I can work it around my school schedule should be no prob. If it is at the Nat. Guard facility I have been there twice and those guys are easy to work with. It would help if I knew it was a driver since I don't always have someone to go with me. PM me for contact info.

is it legal to ride in the back of a deuce and a half

The vehicle is equipped with troop seats as are the new vehicles the military replaced it with. Easier to beg forgiveness that ask permission. I would be more worried about the insurance issue.....will they cover you if someone is injured getting in or out of the vehicle or if you were involved...

    Road trip to Alaska

I have a CDL and am well versed in the regs. At one time I hauled HAZMAT for a living. Waste motor oil is not considered hazardous...all you need is a stencil on the tank denoting "USED MOTOR OIL" to alert first responders as to the cargo. Veggie oil would be considered "FOOD GRADE LIQUID" and...

    Road trip to Alaska

Ferro, What is your timeframe??? Since there is safety in numbers maybe a convoy would be in order. Lead deuce, fuel truck, maint truck (with tools and towbar), trail vehicle. I am retired and have time on my hands (when not in school). I have an M49 tanker that will carry a lot of fuel. If we...
