I think some of the TV scenes in that program were shot at "Shortys" near Anniston.
Shorty sold out to a yankee outfit and they scrapped every bit of green iron on the yare. They would not sell a nut or bold.
Several good trucks, engines in a can and other good parts went through the shredder...
Regular gas is 2.70 a gallon and climbing here.
The thinner prob would have worked as a fuel extender if I had diluted it a LOT MORE.
Once I get the immediate problem fixed I will burn this stuff a little at a time until I get rid of it, I'm that chea.......err....frugal.
Looks...
In my never ending quest for cheap fuel alternatives I bought 55 gallons of recycled solvent (thought it was mineral spirits) Friday for $2.41 a gallon.
Turns out it was laquer thinner but I was commited by then (and prob should be commited now) so I put about 20 gallons in the duece and added a...
I have been around mil vehicles most of my adult life and have driven many of them at one time or another.
I like the fact that they are simple, easy to work on, available, and can mash any dufus that is dumb enough to pull out in front of you.
I bought the duece when I got outbid on three 5 ton...
Wrecker's rules of the road (and living in general)
Never play cards with a guy named "Ace".
Never shoot dice with a guy named "Slick".
Never buy a car from a guy named "Red".
And NEVER, EVER eat at a place called "Mom's".
I have several of these trucks in my sights.
Hope I'm not bidding agin too many of ya.
The real object of my desire is a 5 ton tractor.
If I don't get that its' Katy bar the door on dueces.
It ain't over til the fat lady sings .
May the best man win.
It is not a good idea to burn holes or weld to a frame rail.
It buggers the temper of the metal.
If you have to have a hole use a BF drill, preferably a slow one with a new, sharp bit.
It will take a while but can save a lot of grief over frame failure.
If you need parts there are two M 211's in a local junkyard.
The guy said I could have them for scrap prices since he has had them so long.
PM me if interested.
Welcome to the Dark (green) Side . We have cookies :D .
This is more than a hobby, it's an obsession. :jumpin:
One vehicle will lead to another and another.....they will get bigger.
I got a duece, I want a 5 ton, if I get the 5 ton, I'll want a HEMMTT.
There is no...
I am in the process of making the shelter on the duece more livable.
I plan to put in a fold down queen sized (inflatable) bed.
Other creature comforts will include a small fridge, microwave, sink and maybe a port-a-pot (if I can get ventilation installed).
Carpet has already been purchased and...
As much as I like the 280 shelter up in the bed of the duece it keeps me from using the beast for a hauler (and makes the fuel milage suck).
I was thinking I might mount the sheter to a bolster trailer and tow it when needed.
Anyone have one near me. I'm in NE Alabama.
Pics, price appreciated.
Since I am back among the ranks of the gainfully employed and financial disenfranchisement has been staved off I plan on being there. :jumpin:
We should make plans to link up at various points and convoy in together on a specified day if possible.
I lothe I-75 and will prob not get...
That is the HETT (Heavy Equipment Transporter).
It was (IMHO) designed by an idiot after lenghty consultation with a pack of morons (probably retired Transportation officers working for the builder).
It has a fuel sucking, two stroke Driptroit V-8 diesel (other application for this engine is...
Awesome like a possum.
I'd chop 15 feet off the body, put on a flatbed with a gooseneck hitch and go green iron hunting.
But then again, I'm just a redneck with a cutting torch.
There would still be plenty of room for a small living room. 8)
It would be a sweet ride to...
Here is my contribution. Some of the pics were taken by Jim.
