    M101A2 Axle swap

I think the M101A2 / A3 is the easiest trailer to get rims for! I use 92-97 Ford F250 / F350 Rims personally as they bolt right on. The 8 on 6.5 is a very common lug spacing to deal with. I turned it from hub centric to lug centric by doing this; but it matched my tow vehicle at the time...

    Show us your Military Trailers

Having two legs sounds like a good way to do it. Having a crank jack on each side may be better than the leg(s) as it will give you somewhat better control without having to climb partially under the trailer to lift should you wish to move the suspended load. I'll get a sketch put together of...

    Show us your Military Trailers

As a matter of fact, I did just finish a project for NASA and I do work as a Structural Engineer. Since I store my engine hoist disassembled in a conex, it only took about 30 minutes to put it together in the trailer using some 1/2" steel pins (tent pegs) instead of bolts where I...

    Show us your Military Trailers

I used my engine hoist in my M101A2 this weekend to move a couple of axles around the yard. Since I hadn't patched the holes from the fender relocation, I ran a 10k strap around the frame near the front spring eyes and the hoist legs to keep it stabilized while I did the lifting (the lifting...

    M101A2 - Electrical Setup

I have considered adding an extra battery on the trailer for when I'm out camping, but have yet to make this modification. As recovry4x4 mentioned, you can add a charger easily enough IF you retain the original wiring harness (rewired with a 7 pin connector instead of a 4 pin) and a 7 pin...

    M101A2 Bed Size

My 8' custom topper from my '92 F250 fits exactly on my M101A2. This topper was also on a '89 Chevy 2500. There is NO way to utilize the hold down clamps and the topper needs to be drilled and bolted into place in several locations for it to be secured. I didn't bolt it down or take any...

    m101a2 brake servo part number?

    M101 fuel tank option

I don't remember reading about this "option" while I was going through the TM for my M101A2. Since these trailers are commonly known as "trailer salad", it's hard to know exactly what was done. I'd have to check the TM again to see if there was something there about a built in fuel tank, but I...

    Broken M101A2

There was an idea to utilize ball link ends from a 3 point style hitch as a replacement bracket in one of the other threads. I have the ends myself, but have yet to find anyone with pictures of them installed and I have yet to make this modification myself. I don't utilize the dumping ability...

    Power pole connectors

I also use these connectors for all of my amateur rigs now and am in the process of putting a set on my fuel pump for the in-bed tank. I have considered putting in larger versions for jump starting and the winch connections front and rear of my DD (I run dual post batteries to permit easier...

Steel Soldiers emails and site issues

Thanks for clearing this mess up. While I only received one of the spoof emails, I figured there was a hack somewhere along the line since it wasn't something that I would have expected from this site.

    m101a3 axles max weight load?

I routinely put 3k in my M101A2 with the A3 axle. 320 to 350 gallons of water + tank, spare & hold downs comes in just a hair under 3k. Utilize 16" load range E tires and it pulls like a dream.

    M101 Wheel Cylinders?

Yes, these cylinders are a direct replacement. I was able to locate them at a local trailer shop so I didn't have to wait for shipping. HTH

    M101 Wheel Cylinders?

Search for a thread on M101/116 brake parts / shoes. The civy equivalents are listed there along with links to etrailer dot com. If I wasn't on my dumb phone, I'd provide the link. I have posted to that thread myself, so it'll be under one of my posts if you search my postings. Any trailer...

    New Surge Brake questions

It sounds as if your old piston was well worn. When I rebuilt my A2 surge assembly, it does take significantly more force to activate the brakes with an unloaded trailer. With a loaded trailer, it works just the way it was designed; which is when you need the brakes the most. I'm interested...

Easy source for M101A3 Brake Pads?

The purple text for the links in that thread don't help much either. Glad to know that it helped. I think I had both sides done in about 4 hours or less (including all new bearings & races) when I did it last fall. Not too bad of a project.

Easy source for M101A3 Brake Pads?

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/trailers/44524-m101a2-a3-brake-shoes.html See above thread for part numbers and purchase locations and other tips. You have brake shoes, not pads; that alone would have affected your search results. Good luck with the replacement.

    M105a2 recovery and brake question

You can also put on a electric over hydraulic brake actuator and utilize a brake controller in the tow vehicle instead of swapping out the axle. If you hide the actuator, it'll still look stock and you may just put valves in the lines so you can still utilize the original air brakes at a later...

    Yes another M101A2 question!

That is one of the caps that Croft has and it is the same as the CJ-5 cap. It will replace your mushroom type cap with no problems.

    Yes another M101A2 question!

The CJ-5 cap is a direct replacement and it is vented by 2 small holes in the side of the flat ends. You may have a hard time getting just the cap from your local parts house; I went with a full master cylinder replacement to get a spare cap (needed to change the master anyway). Croft has them...
