I purchased it from a SS fellow member. I trust his abilities as he also has a service garage. He assured me that he did a full PM on it when I bought it about a year ago. I probably put 3,000 miles on it since I got it. I have had it in some deep water a few times. But pressure washed it at...
OK, I started out by tearing into pinion bearing and seal replacement, as they were loose and leaking. No big deal. So I thought, my axle boots were split and oozing grease.....might as well take care that too, since I had a full kit to do all axle seals and boots. Started this afternoon with...
I am getting ready to do the same to the inside of mine. It's just that the Dynamax is soooo expensive. I found something at Home Depot that should work almost as well. They carry rolls of duct insulation made by Frost King, it is 12" wide, 1/8" thick and 15' long. The roll costs under $15 and...
I'm planning on being there. I didn't get to go last year because I was a new MV guy then, and found out about it with too little notice. I hope to have a little extra cash to bring along.
Mine was a Military Police truck, shipped from Camp Arijifan,, Kuwait to New York. Probably when it was decommissioned. Not sure what service it saw yet. I made a post to Carnac's 2012 VIN info thread. Hopefully he can find something for me. The name stenciled to the windshield is SSG Bauerlein...
I'm spoiled. I got tired of the filter bags. And p*ssed and complained about enough that my wife went and bought me a centrifuge system for my birthday last year. I have a drum with a 75 micron nylon mesh, metal housing filter that is washable, mounted in the "lid" of the drum. The centrifuge is...

OK, here is my info from the ID tag and was inked on the drivers door + a shipping label on drivers vent. Name stenciled on windshield is: SSG Bauerlein . Truck is a 1971 M35a2 WOW
serial # 52532499
reg # 04L90171
NSN # 23200771616
Purchased from private owner in Chantilly, VA
Thanx in advance.
I am getting ready to do the same thing on my front rear. The U joint went bad and the vibration loosened up my pinion bearings. I am replacing bearings and seals at both flanges. Let me know how you make out. I will be starting my tear down next week sometime.
I mad a remote reservoir and a pressure bleeder, great ideas.
My process for bleeding the brakes:
1. fill remote reservoir
2. attach pressure bleeder to top of remote reservoir and "pump up" sprayer tank.
3. bleed airpack at bleeder valve AND lines into slave cylinder (redundant, but can't...
WOW....I would have never figured this to be the problem. The vent tube by the air cleaner that had what looks like a brass plug, is actually an orifice plug. The tiny hole in it was completely plugged with dirt, causing any air venting from the air pack to not vent and over-pressurize the whole...
I am leaning in that direction. I do have an emergency spare MC. It was oozing fluid, but worked when I switched it out. It was new less than a year ago, so it may give me an indcation if it is the "rebuilt" MC. Yes there is an internal valve at the end of the piston/seal assembly.
OK, I bled everything AGAIN. Bed at the line fittings and bleeder valves without having started the truck, had gotten the beginnings of a pedal (about 1/3 up from the floor) not great, but felt like I might have it this time. So I started the truck and built air pressure, and BOOM to the floor...
Before I started the project the MC had leaked itself bone dry on my way home from work one night. I limped it home by going slow and downshifting before pumping what little braking power I had left.
Yeah, cylinders were honed. I took about .003/side, the cups still fit snug, so I don't think I took too much out of them. Going to try and bleed the snot out of everything before I start at square one.
I rebuilt the MC and the airpack at the same time. The original problem was a leaky airpack letting air into the fluid side of the system and brake fluid into the air side of the pack. I am baffled as everything associated has been rebuilt.
