I compounded the drive... taking my M1009 CUCV to Ft. Benning for a training gig and pickedu up a deuce at Warner Robbins.
Took that CUCV with a medium towbar to hook to a nice '87 M35A2. Towed 900 miles back in two days. Total was about 25 hrs driving time. Wore hearing protection and had...
I know plenty of women who have rifles. But the number who have their own deuce are rarer. I'm in love.
Oddly, I was just down at Ft. Benning on business... drive a CUCV to two back behind a deuce I bought. Found one of the lady Sergeants and the daughter of a hey-you volunteer who helped...
As is so common, my 109 shows signs of water intrusion into the van box and damage to the floor. The manuals don't address repairs to fix these problems and search doesn't find the topic, so here goes.
1. What are the common points of water entry, and how do you solve them?
2. How do you...
I give up on it.
I read that instructions for disabling it have been published but can't find a reference to it. Ran the search system and came up empty handed.,
So how do you disable the CTIS?
Thanks much.
Great info guys.
Going to work at a towing outfit is a good idea but I've already got a job that takes far more time than I have to spare. I'll have to depend on your kind advice and some training exercises.
Am going over the recovery manual now. Most everything I do will be pretty simple...
Great info.
I figured that running the towbar backwards... with the legs hooked to the wrecker and running chains to the lifting shackles and hoisting the ass end is the magic. Tie up the steeringwheel and run it. Figure desplined hubs are easier than fussing with the front driveshaft.
The...
The inventory ranges from well-used and patched or with rusty spots (rocker panels) to extremely nice.
I got an M816 a month after the dump truck and it was great. Fired right up but a staffer noted a leak from the air reservoir drain tube. I pulled the tube and capped it, replaced a flat...
OK, got a new M816 5T tow truck and an interesting challenge.
Need to tow a deuce that's had the rear axles pulled off to put on monstor trucks.
Two issues: how to best hook up the deuce to the tow truck, and whether the front tires will support the weight of the deuce.
I figure if I...
I noticed some oil drops while my truck idled during a 900 mile recovery from Warner Robbins. 12,000 miles on an '87. Cleaned the engine and found slight seep at the front of the forward head within 100 miles. Kept an eye on it for another 500 miles and find the front edge of the block is...
Now why didn't I think of that? I went out to look and damned if it wasn't centered. Flipped it up and everything's right with the world.
OK, we've still got a political problem or so but I've now got lights.
Must have knocked it as I was cleaning the dash yesterday.
Thanks much.
Now...
Here's an odd one. Of course it began last night as I was due to head out for supper.
Headlights, turn signals, dash lights, rear lights... all were out. Gen lights, 4wd lights, wait, etc lights all worked. Haven't found a fuze bad and the troubleshooting guide in the -20 manual doesn't...
I picked up a deuce at Warner Robbins and came down in a 1009 to pick it up. I can tow the 1009... I towed it recently 200 miles after a pickup at Camp Dodge.
It towed fine, but now I'm looking at about a 1000 mile tow behind a deuce.
I disconnected the rear driveshaft per the manual and...
Interesting thread.
I bought a lot of the units because I have a number of deuces I want to install them on... it'll add resale value.
I've intstalled them before and love them. Yes, it does make steering easier and that alone is worth it to me. But there's a more important issue in my...
The TI is routinely prepared at turn-in. I got a couple of them too. The items identified aren't resolved, and the diagnosis isn't always correct. At least you get one as a starting point. The only other place I've received one was today at Warner Robbins.
I think the guys at Camp Dodge...
Well, I got her started. 29 degrees and a shot of ether. Took a bit of cranking but fired up and ran well. That goofy one-way shutoff cable was indeed the problem. I imagine it's in the manual somewhere but surely didn't note it.
Better go over it again.
Thanks everybody.
That's just too logical and simple. I'll try it tomorrow.
Probably clearly stated somewhere in the manual.
I'm sending in a 2028 to recommend a change to the manuals. The wiring diagrams clearly note connection numbers, but the assembly and disassembly instructions are numbered step by...
I hadn't heard or read anything like that. When we got the dump home the electric shutoff switch didn't shut it down because we'd turned the electric shutoff knob in (don't have the manual in front of me so don't remember the correct terms). Had to use the manual stop as expected. I've since...
Well, it took a few hours but I got smarter.
Looked into the wiring diagram to find out where things went... like that enigmatic line 74 which went to the new control unit.
Had a diesel mech friend come out and take a look. He sid the starter was wired ok and then started shooting from the...
I'm hoping to pick up a nice deuce in GA, and it looks like I'll drive a 1009 down to pick it up (full of tools and parts etc.) then tow it back with a GI towbar hauled with the 1009. I'll tow back at 50-55 with the deuce. Would like to splice into the wiring to have turn signals but doubt...
