    Time to connect the 803

Well is is hard to measure with 30-40 mph winds but maybe 22-24". Expecting another 10-15 before it ends late this evening. I am about at my limits in pushing it with tractor. I just got in from a 6 hr plow session and could not keep up. So far the power is still on. I swept off the genny and it...

    Time to connect the 803

Winds started to pick up and the blizzard is now official. Power just burped for the first time and it is usually not long after that before it goes out for good. Looks like I may be woken up to the power out alarm tonight and have to go shovel snow off the 803 and power it up. Who knows how...

    Time to connect the 803

I was only interested in extending run time a bit. My longest outage prior to getting the 803 was 5 days. My 55 gallom drums are rotated through my tractor so oldest is about a year. I dont draw off the bottom 2-3 inches to avoid dirt and water. While not necessary to add a 15 gal aux tank, I...

    Time to connect the 803

I have not noticed an issue with storing fuel in plastic drums for the last 5 years. As my application is not permanent, the smaller 15 gallon drums will be easier to deploy after the genset is up and running in emergency and it will extend run time. My bulk storage is still 55 gallon poly...

    Time to connect the 803

I suspect you need a vent. That is part of the reason I want a barrel with two bungs. Second reason is to refill the aux barrel while the generator is running and connected to the aux barrel. I am sure that they make all types of automotive vents that you could fab into the barrel/barrel cap...

    Time to connect the 803

Still looking.. I found 15 gallon drums with two bungs and two handles for $59 but hoping to find even cheaper. Thats not bad though considering if you put the word "fuel" in the description the price would double.

    Time to connect the 803

I looked at the fuel caddy but dont really need the pump or hose. I just need a good low cost container with dual 2" openings with caps. Ideally low center of gravity so its not much higher than bed rails and easy to transport. I am sure something exits that is cheap.

    Time to connect the 803

With the mild winter in the mid-atlantic, I only just now moved the 803 into winter position next to the house. Installed a leather cover over the power cord (along with a bunch of other welding/cutting/hydraulic leads), and I have been stocking up on diesel while its on sale. Will look for a...

MEP-802 and 803 Main generator tip.

Looking good. I have never heard of bigger wire being a problem. I need to get the MOV's ordred, just waiting until I have enough junk in my cart for free shipping.

MEP-802 and 803 Main generator tip.

I am confused by the MOV addition. I thought that the quad winding issues were resolved by the slow blow fuse modification alone.

MEP-802 and 803 Main generator tip.

A friend of mine has one reset in 2010 and he said it has it as well. I think the change came in 08' / 09'.

MEP-802 and 803 Main generator tip.

Mine was Tier 2 reset in 2012 and has the modification.

What coolant & for MEP-802a? Precharged nitrite type or just green heavy duty type?

Inhibited ethylene glycol antifreeze (MIL-A- 46153), is what it calls for. I believe that is standard corrosion inhibtor type you find at any auto parts store.

    So......Am I the only one

"I lost power for 15 days during superstorm Sandy. I used $750.00 in diesel for the outage. Needless to say, I no longer wish to tryout my genny, but in grateful to have it as backup." Ouch, how much was fuel then? I thought 003/803's ran about 10gal in 24hrs assuming 1/2 load average. I stocked...

Another electrical question - MEP8XX running welder

For remotely running a welder it is best to drive a ground, which sucks of course. Search for welder and that keyword may help. I use my mobile device to access this site, so its a pain or I would find the link and post it.

Another electrical question - MEP8XX running welder

Welcome to the forum. I recently bought an ESAB 350mpi I plan to run 3-phase on the 803. Just pay attention to proper grounding. I wont get into it and start a new thread on an old subject, so just do a search.

    Won a MEP-803A on a Trailer

Dryer, oven, wall strip heater, microwave, vacuums, heatpumps, A/C units, are all pretty big loads and you have a shop, so you can get it to 50-75% easy and throw a few large motors on/off to give it a workout. Like someone else said, if the unit is new to you, then start slow and work your...

    Won a MEP-803A on a Trailer

I see a lot of people buying heating elements, wiring etc. just to load these units for maintenance, and I say save your money and just power your house to bank them on a regular basis. Might as well reduce electric bill if you are burning up fuel in testing. You might really need another way...

    Won a MEP-803A on a Trailer

Power will never go out again - Trust me! But thats not a bad thing either. It looks to me like it could be a fresh rebuild with only initial run time. You can't always go by the hour gauges. Should just be something simple and if it is you got it for an excellent price (at least considering...
